Resumed watching Rose of Versalles and I FINALLY reached the episodes directed by Dezaki. The Story is getting better and darker with each passing episode and I'm loving it. I feel like rewatching Utena when I finish it.

Sadly, Urobuchi jumped to the Xbox One Psycho-Pass visual novel that we'll never see in English.Randorama wrote:Yes, they removed Urobushi from writing duties. BryanM wrote: Well, that makes sense. If something is successful, throw out the people who made it. Rehash the mytharc of the first season. Argh.
...No, no, Urobushi was one of the writers, and maybe not even the lead writer. Besides, Urobushi seems to consistently focus on lame details and gore, as befits to hipster writers. Unless you want to tell me that you find AldNoah and Puella good.
Anyway: how come you like the rehash more than the original one, only to complain when I point out what is missing from 1 to 2=rehash of 1? Are you icy-calming me, dammit?! I am waiting for you in the parking lot behind the forum, if this is the case!!!!
...they released Psychopass: the movie, in case you wonder. The plot seems rehash N.2, according to wikipedia.

That was sarcasm; brainputer is interesting for about one episode in season 1 and ceases to be interesting after that. Season 2 is like fan fiction that's trying too hard to be identical to the first one; the original writer might have had other plot points in mind to branch out to. Or not. Not every poop a person takes is gold plated.
It's like that Prometheus movie: "Wouldn't it be neat if it was ALIENS that made people?" No... not really. Not if it doesn't mean anything. God, do I hate the female lead in Psycho Pass. The 4 year old robot from Ergo Proxy with all the superpowers of a normal 4 year old girl is more fearsome and cunning than her. : /
I've already gone on record about being fond of Meduka Meguca.

arrrrrrrrrrrrrghSEAUn, brings in the Sibyl System as an experiment, and the coastal town of Shambala Float achieves temporary peace and safety. But then terrorists from SEAUn appear in Japan, slipping through the Sibyl System and attacking from within, drawing Akane Tsunemori and her team to Shambala Float to investigate.
fuck that. why

The two do not blend together, claims of "sarcasm" or not, hence my puzzlement. Text sarcasm works when the reader needs to skip one logical passage, not ten...nothing personal.BrianM wrote:Psycho Pass 2... they took all the things I hated about the first season, and made a new season based around ONLY that stuff.
Actually, the basic ingredients are fairly lame (brain puter, gore-loving villain with a mullet who cites romantic writers, the main character that...well, yes, whatever), but somehow the execution in both series is not bad. Aside the gore and the lame "I have a BA in English!" quotes, the dystopian setting was really the only element from Urobushi's pen, and they "recycled" that for obvious reasons.
2.5/5 icycalms to the discussion, though!

Re: Recommended Anime/Manga?
Very late to the party, I finally watched Ninja Scroll, also my first exposure to Kawajiri besides his contribution to Manie-Manie. I could immediately tell how it was a major influence on SNK, especially Nicotine and Basara's designs. It's deeply shlocky and the hurriedly explained backstory might as well not have been there, but I greatly enjoyed it. Dagger of Kamui is the superior film though.

Re: Recommended Anime/Manga?
by SNK do you mean Shinjeki No Kyojin? or Neo-Geo stuff?
Re: Recommended Anime/Manga?
I have been watching Astro Boy (1980) - it is really really good, combining cool little stories and also that late 70s cartoon feel I love - the episode I watched last night was about a transglobal race, and it was kinda like Wacky Races, which I like a lot. The art overall is very nice - really good colour/tone balancing and also nice detail both temporaly/animation wise and per frame.
Some really good fun character design in the crowds too:

I just watched the 4 ep Corpse Party OVA, Tortured Souls. It was... pretty intense. I think it's actually a lot better than the game was, since it removed the good majority of the moe shit. I did not see that plot twist in episode 3 coming either though. Anyhow I'll recommend it for anyone who's up for a super hardcore super violent horror anime.

I figure it's time to return to my favourite genre, mecha. Just finished episode 4 of Overman King Gainer, and it's funny on how similar it seems to G Reconquista. BONES are really a good studio, in my opinion.
Also, last scene with Adette was so Team Rocket it hurts.

The last Episodes of The Rose of Versalles were so tragic and violent they gave me goosebumps.
A piece of art. That's the only think I can say about this series.

Been meaning to try out Rose of Versailles - any particular advantage in manga vs anime? Although I guess from you guys' posts the anime is solid.

Re: Recommended Anime/Manga?
Putting "PatLabor" in the site's search function nets 7 pages of results, so I guess I don't need to actually recommend it.
But yeah, I watched the old OAV and TV Series on Hulu recently, and enjoyed quite a lot. Granted, I think the OAV is a bit of a mess in terms of pacing. It spends four episodes having no plot, then two episodes bringing in a plot out of nowhere and wrapping it up just as suddenly, then just having a regular episode for the finale. Otherwise, I really enjoyed the down-to-earth style (not that I dislike more dramatic/outrageous stuff), sense of humor, and the fact that nearly every character has a unique face without diving into really wacky faces like a number of shonen series do. Not that I dislike that, either, it just wouldn't be a good fit for the show. I will complain that Kanuka is a bit of a Mary Sue, though. Its not too annoying since the show barely acknowledges her existence (or that of her replacement) most of the time, but still...
In theme with down-to-earth shows, I've watched both seasons of Mushi-shi. While very imaginative and a refreshing change of pace, I feel like the show could've mixed up its own formula a bit more. The general flow of every episode feels nearly identical, which isn't helped by the villager designs being reused constantly. It also feels a bit too convenient that Ginko has always already heard and read about whatever the mushi-of-the-week is. I mean, for mysterious creatures only visible to a small percentage of humanity, most of whom apparently live their lives just thinking they're crazy or whatever, the little buggers are pretty damn well documented!

They are both great - there is an extra bit at the end of the manga though which is interesting from what I remember, still I would watch the anime first as it's combination of visuals and warm 70s sounds is majesticBIL wrote:Been meaning to try out Rose of Versailles - any particular advantage in manga vs anime? Takehito Koyasu is amazing as always. Funny how the character he played here (Asuham) looks just like Dio Brando from JoJo, who he also voices. He is great with Tomino monologues.

Yeah that guys a great seiyou. Yeah I mean SO much stuff was left unexplained - I mean ok yeah environmental shit blah blah, but it never really explained over forces etc. properly, and that's apart from the fact that it has no ending. Still the constant humour, inventiveness and beauty (EVERYTHING looks cool in snow) carried it along perfectly IMO.soprano1 wrote:

Re: Recommended Anime/Manga?
Finished watching Initial D Second Stage and Third Stage, and while it was as interesting to watch as the first season, the few art style changes made some characters such as Iketani lose a bit of personality in their design. However, the weirdest thing for me was the hair color change for Ryosuke Takahashi from dark blue to light brown. Combined with the art changes, he sometimes could be mistaken for Takumi.
Races and music are still awesome, though.
