As befits to that shmup-subgenre (if that can be called shmup at all - to be honest, our game is somewhat difficult to categorize), X Caeli is not exactly dexterity based and your ship can take quite an amount of punishment. If you build it right, of course. It doesn't mean there is no skill involved and there's enough of finesse rewards for the taking. Our two key features are well-polished balance (well, as polished as it can be in the beta) and the diversity of the gameplay and tactics. Our guns differ in much more than just higher/lower damage and area of effect available - each has its own, exclusive quirks, benefits and demands. Many require quite a careful approach to shooting - while you don't dodge as much in X Caeli, you certainly need to control your guns with greater precision. Adjust your approach, even.
The game (especially the full version) also requires constant adaptation. You can't just make one setup and beat everything with it - different waves of enemies require different solutions. I've tried and trying very hard to prevent the "ultimate gun combo to pwn them all" from ever appearing. And while there are some pretty dishonest tricks that you can pull, they're hardly universal.
I've made a video which is supposed to show the combo-nature of the gameplay in just 1 minute.
