Ok, my setup is going to involve a PVM 14L5 and a Micomsoft SC-512N1-L/DVI for capture. From my understanding, to capture scart sources with the 512, I will need an XSync-1 (or a similar sync splitter). I already have the Xsync-1 on the way. It would output to a VGA cable (and audio RCA) which would then go into the 512 card.
My main question is, what cables and/or transcoders do I need to either passthrough from the card to the PVM (BNC/RCA Component/Composite/SVideo)? I would like to preserve the RGB and introduce as little input delay as possible.
Another method I was thinking of was using an SCART splitter/switcher (using an scart f/f coupler), have one output go to the Xsync-1 & 512 as usual, and have the other go into an SCART to Component Transcoder.
It seems like I'll need a transcoder in both setups, though I don't think there's a decent VGA to component transcoder, and I don't think I can simply use a VGA to component cable, as a transcoder seems necessary. I was leaning towards the splitter route, so I could use an scart to component transcoder even when I'm not capturing.
Or should I just ultimately connect VGA from the card to a minimal input delay VGA monitor and forget about all this? I don't have much experience with the SCART to component transcoders (or Sync splitters) and don't know how much input delay they introduce, if at all.
If someone has some insight towards this, I would be very appreciative.
edit: After thinking about it more, the sync splitter removes the csync, so putting a transcoder after the 512 passthrough would not work. I would need to combine the RGB and csync somehow and a simple VGA to RCA/BNC breakout cable would not work. So the only options I have left is either the Scart splitter/dist. amp with scart to component transcoder, or rely on the card's passthrough and use VGA from the 512 to a vga monitor. I would think the prior is a lot of work just to output on the PVM and would most likely introduce picture degradation (maybe input lag), whereas the latter would introduce just monitor lag and is much less work.
edit2: After even more thinking, I doubt my monitors can support 240p and I would need an upscaler... So, it looks like I should go the Scart split and transcode route. So I suppose my ultimate question would be, where can I get a good Scart Distribution Amplifier? I would have to get the CSY-2100 clone and the "Scart RCA audio extractor" to handle the transcoding to output to the PVM.
edit3: Thought about this some more. What I'm dealing with isn't Scart, but JP21 cables... So, I guess I have to go the pass through, upscaler route. So I probably have to look at one of Micomsoft's upscalers. But the 1 frame of lag on the mini doesn't look that great... So either I get the XRGB-3 or go back to component for lagless.
edit4: Looks like it it possible to use Scart if I get the Scart to JP21 adapter cables and vice versa. So the other option is on the table again.

First of all: you don't need a trancoder. Your L5 accepts RGBs perfectly fine.
Also the XSync already is a splitter. It does output RGBHV through the VGA connector and at the same time RGBs through the DIN8 connector.
In other words: all your scart sources go into the XSync. Your 512 gets connected to the HD15 output of the XSync and your monitor gets connected through the Din8 output (using a DIN8 to BNC cable).
Also both your L5 and the 512 are perfectly fine with 15khz 240p signals, so you don't need any further processing or upscaling in this setup.

So all I really need right now is a DIN8 to BNC cable (unfortunately can't really find one after a quick google search and nothing like it included with the Xsync-1). Well, this makes the whole process simpler. This whole work in progress is actually for a way for others who can't afford capture equipment (speedrunners, vg events, tournies, etc.). The less cables and tech I have to go through, the better. Now I just gotta hunt for that DIN8 to BNC cable. And if I can accomodate those with JP21 or SCART setups, even better. I don't think you'll find a standard cable for the XSYNC-1's 8DIN output. I have seen the DIN8 to Scart, then the Scart to BNC breakout. Though maybe not as elegant a solution.
edit: Though the din to scart is probably not pinned out correctly. I'll have to double check that.

The XSync-1 like all Micomsoft products uses the standard Japanese MSX2 RGB pinout on the din8 output. So just grab an MSX cable from someone, then either get a SCART->BNC adapter, or just open up the SCART plug, and add BNC connectors to the ends of each wire.option.iv wrote:Yeah, you're right.
