But that last stage theme is amazing.

Lately I've had an idea to change the level layouts of Bloodlines so that the whip swinging and spear jumping has proper uses. I'm drawing the level concepts right now, later I'll actually get to changing stuff.
Actually, for spear jumping at least, there's a crazy amount of use for both combat and stage manuevering. I use it a ton in the run I'm working on. It's an amazing tool.

I like it, the stages and music are wonderful, and the controls feel tight... but even knowing that its not the same game as Shadow Dancer, I am having a hard time adjusting. One hit kills have attuned me to avoid all damage, and it seems like doing this in Revenge is very hard. Some spots seem designed to force you into damage. Even the Stage 1 boss gives me several whacks before I can take him down. Will stick with it though as I am enjoying the game, I think I just need to adjust my approach a bit. Made it through the waterfall stage though, so making some progress.
Like most non euro garbage games, you can avoid all damage throughout the game. The final boss is a cheap bastard though who will force you to either save state practice avoiding his attacks or just spam your resources on him lol.

I'm having this problem with Revenge and 3 myself after playing so much Shadow Dancer, haha. Drives me nuts every time I get hit.
Come check out my website, I guess. Random stuff I've worked on over the last two decades.

3's final boss requires memorization but really isn't cheap at all.

practice a bit and you WILL be able to no-miss him.

Yeah, it's pretty fun; I dig it. ROMs are available as it never got an official release on the Genesis. It had Turbografx-16 and PC releases, though.

I am posting to commemorate my finally beating Revenge of Shinobi/Super Shinobi and Alisia Dragoon. Revenge is the game that made me want to have a Genesis in the first place; the later levels of the game were really taxing for a good long while.

I will admit that I cheesed out in the labyrinth by finally breaking down and looking at a map, because after dicking around for ~20 minutes I was not feeling it anymore. And then I lost my 1CC at Zeed. >.> Two credits later I made it back, kept my full power with ninjitsu (how the hell do you beat this guy without it?), and basked in that glorious ending tune. Joe Mushashi will return in.... THE SHADOW DANCER!

I guess in retrospect, the game isn't too hard, but I wasn't good enough. Though the Bay and Labyrinth require a lot of inching forward and killing enemies before they start their attack patterns.

In Alisia Dragoon I finally found out how to counter the level 7 midboss's Toaplan-esque bullet-spread and get through without losing all my life. For my money that cult dude and his hard-gay thugs were harder than the evil leader the very next stage. Dodging that guy's lightning-floor attack called to mind all of BIL's complaints about that jump bug; it gave me a lot more damage than needed. I still enjoyed it thoroughly, even if the game is now a bit more qualified by its minor flaws rather than an out-and-out masterpiece.

The haado gay dance troup of infernal magick is the bit where you will learn to counteract the Jump Bug by using only minimal or maximal-height leaps... or suffer!

Great game for sure, just a shame it's got those bush league dings. See also Holy Diver (FC). THOSE AMATEUR HACK FUCKS NEEDED A GAIJIN LIKE ME ON THE TEAM (・`W´・)

I beat Beyond Oasis somewhat recently. Its a fairly fun game, but pretty easy (I died only twice, one of which was a suicide) and maybe too linear. The special moves are a nice touch to the combat, though its a bit disappointing that only the dagger has them. I don't get what the hell Yuzo Koshiro was going for with that soundtrack, though. Sometimes it felt like the same few chords were just playing ad nauseum the whole game.

Oh, and top-down platforming on tiny moving platforms with weird hitboxes and a skidding animation whenever you land from a dash jump can go die in a fire. Especially when part of a boss fight...

So, has anyone here played this on real hardware? I played it on Wii VC and I was wondering if Bow's Poison Gas attack is supposed to cause a ton of slowdown and sprite flickering, but otherwise not really have a graphic of its own (I was expecting purple haze or something). I mean, it does say that it slows enemies down, but I wasn't expecting it to work like that! Pretty useful sometimes, though, being able to play in TAS mode.

It's been a year Image and THE SNOW AINT MELTED YET. Perhaps I won't receive a savage fiscal bumming from faulty Tengen carts after all! Hell, I've had V-V (NTSCJ) for six months now with no issues, but that one's the ultime mystery of them all. Will check in, MDcompatriots. Image

On the subject of Tengen, what do chaps think of Western-developed Crush Pinball spinoff Dragon's Revenge? I see it got an NTSCJ release, interesting.

Haven't played them to extreme levels, but I dig. I think if you're into the Crush games then you'll enjoy quite a bit if you like evil shit and pinball.

The physics are nothing like Devil Crush, in fact it feels like you're controlling a superball rather than a pinball the way the thing bounces around, and the main table layout is a bit weird. As you can readily tell from YT vids, the graphics and sound are inferior to Devil Crush as well. The bonus stages are actually quite good though IMO.

Despite all that there is still some enjoyment to be had.

BIL, I know you probably haven't stepped into PAL territory yet, but if you're looking for the MD's companion game to Devil Crash then you need Psycho Pinball by Codemasters.

Ta bruvs! The porno groans are certainly a hoot, bahaha. Reminds me of the time my mom thought me and my bro were watching SKINEMAX PORNO but we were just playing eminently shitty N64 fighter Dark Rift! *moan groan*

If anything, I kinda like the bizarre main table layout. Might just stick with DCMD for now.

Yeah stryc9, Codemasters' stuff is of interest for sure! I need to finally start giving NTSCU and EU stuff a look.

You had a N64 back then? The horror.
I didn't really play anything tonight (so far), but I watched some games running on Genesis-Plus-GX:
The Chaos Engine/Soldiers of Fortune doesn't sound terrible, but I don't find The Bitmap Brothers' trademark gunmetal gloss to be faithfully recreated. Oh well.
Speedball 2 - well, I wouldn't know (no attract replays in this one), but the music doesn't disappoint.
Chiki Chiki Boys looked faithful to the CPS-1 pale palette, yay.
Vampire Killer - NOWHERE does it say "Akumajou Dracula", but THAT lass - isn't she faithful?

In other news, there's that Chaos Engine 2 Mega Drive ROM out there (I don't think it's ever been officially released).

Oh yes, Micro Machines Turbo Tournament '96 has no beef with 60 Hz on the Wii. Had no real chance to try 8-player, but it's Micro Machines!

Fuck that shit homie :shock: AKI wrasslin games were the best multiplayer that gen.
Vampire Killer - NOWHERE does it say "Akumajou Dracula"
Quite clever really, with Demon Castle Dracula serving as only the first stage, and as a ruined shell of its usual self! Also (along with Dracula X) deftly sidestepped the issue of three installments releasing very close on as many platforms without resorting to lameass numerals / hardware references.

I guess "Akumajou Dracula: European Vacation Daibouken" coulda worked too.

Haven't heard of that one. But incidentally, Wikipedia would've had you believe the Super Famicom-native Darius Twin and Darius Force were arcade entries in the series alongside I, II, Gaiden, G and Another Chronicle.

Ah yes, the tune that blew me away back in the day during my first rental of Vectorman. Only adding to my already strong love for Genesis music. Will name a few more of my Western fave;

My fave from X-Men 2: Clone Wars;
- Sentinel Core Escape (this is my was my fave back in the day https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vjR_Z4G ... 9A&index=5
- Inside Avalon (this very strange tune really grew on me to the point of sticking with me since day 1) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CFKMVUN ... A01E811D9A
- The Brood Queen & Her Claws (and of course this tune rocks) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pA9lCpd ... 9A&index=3

From X-Men (love this game & soundtrack very much);
- Shi'ar Empire https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zZ-BZ3B ... 321638BF84
- Ahab's World https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N9Q-He3 ... 84&index=8
- the tune that plays during Lilandra encounter & elsewhere I can't find on YouTube, but I always hang on that Lilandra screen to hear more then enough of it. :)

Mortal Kombat 1;
- Warrior's Shrine (my fave) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eLYmmCw ... 48&index=3

Aladdin-
Turban Jazz (fave tune in the game) - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iiIin1z ... 3&index=13

Lotus 2 REC
- Play video at 6:33 min; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Vt4vAuiSwE#t=393

Top Gear...
- Yeah, I'm kind of cheating here, but it's my fave Top Gear tune :p https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VMZJ6oQayAU https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=45xpqOP ... 1F&index=2

Picked up a nice copy of Fire Shark yesterday, been looking for this one for a bit. Tossed it on and started shooting things (With Rapid), but didn't catch that the game defaulted to Easy. First credit, puttered out at the last stage of the 2nd loop with around 5m points.

From reading this thread, it seems like the higher difficulties will provide a good challenge (And not just how many credits you are allowed), so I'm looking forward to jumping back in to it.

Also picked up a ratty cart-only Punisher on the cheap. I haven't heard much about it, but if its co-op and even remotely playable, I tend to just pick it up. Plus, I'd never actually plop down for a nice cart with the price it goes for, so getting it for around $20 seemed like the best bet.

Same Same's definitely pretty damn frisky on Hard (not sure if Fire Shark was altered at all - I know Hellfire has some differences between JP and overseas). Among my favourite shooters to pop in for instant sniper tank terror!

Fire Shark is a tad bit easier than Same! Same! Same! (enemies are less aggressive and bullets travel slower) but it's not a huge difference. I've grown to immensely enjoy those multi-loop sessions on the MD Toaplan titles, although I'm sure as hell I'm never going to clear 13 loops of Slap Fight MD again. :lol:
