Donpachi US version 1-all get
I didn't know that it was a significantly easier version before i played, honest!
Got to 2-4 due to sheer bomb generousity. Have 7 bombs maximum and fill them up after each stage. Yes sir. JP version is not half as broken in that regard lol.

Game kinda sucks though. At the outset it looks like its a cool little mini Ketsui in the second loop but all that fun you could have weaving through those suicide bullets are made hopeless by having a large hitbox that makes you die to so many situations where your experiences with Ketsui and DOJBL had taught you that you were just fine. I don't think I can or should bother more with this game lol.

Donpachi's hitbox is large, but you can still make some tight dodges with it. The second loop is like many other shmups with massive suicide bullet rain - you have to be willing to let up on the trigger now and then to make yourself a gap.

Also, holy cow, two DOJ clears. This is a good month for superplayers I guess!

Yeah the massive hitbox in donpachi really throws me off because I think I can make a dodge like I did in DOJ BL but then proceed to die. Game is great fun though, I feel so immersed in the game world for some reason.

Donpachi would be an excellent game with just a little higher bullet density & smaller hitboxes. I like the short chaining, it's very much a mini-ketsui like you said

yeeeeeah!! Muchi muchi pork. My first clear of the year and even after working on it for a bit, it was still unexpected for tonight. I was totally taken off guard and made the second loop only to die at the stage 2-1 mid boss! i'm not too bothered, i'm so happy to clear this. It looked sketchy near the the end of the 3rd form on the final boss, luckily for me he exploded into a ton of 10,000 medals and gave me an extend that took me through the 1 all! my 2015 goal is already complete!... for specific goals at least...

Great work as always, pegboy! Some very intense recoveries and dodging sequences in your run.

I'm surprised that it is possible to milk Peace Destroyer in such a manner. If you try doing that with Mudy Crystal you'll get pestered by indestructible cubes that will shoot you at point-blank range. I just assumed that all bosses behave like that, what a frowsy fallacy from my part.

Does anyone else find Peace Destroyer one of the series' creepier-looking bosses? I did a double take the first time I reached it. Thought it was a goddamn space manatee with those big eyes and gibbering "beak." Then it did the "BOO!" lunge attack, aiee!

Maybe I just hate oarfish IRL. I don't mind the similarly huge and lungey Drio Sawm and Titanic Lance at all.

It's not only one of the creepiest looking bosses, but he also has the most direct and straightforward "bad guy" names of a video game boss ever. I mean seriously, fucking "Peace Destroyer"? LOL.

The only reason I discovered that he was milkable to that extent was because I was trying to optimize a score route, with my intent to be milking the bosses right up to the point the cubes show up and then kill them quickly. Well, the cubes never showed up on him! I'm not sure if it's an oversight or a bug, or if it works in the Japanese version or not, but you can basically counterstop the game on that boss if you are dedicated enough (although farming points on him is not entirely trivial).

Bleh, finally 1cc'd Mars Matrix again. Completely botched the third stage chain, though, so I only got around 2 mil experience (and apx. 900 billion score). Luckily I at least managed to full chain five, or else it would have been less. This time I'm gonna try to actually keep in practice on the game to prevent the atrophy.

My rankings page is slowly getting filled up with runs that end on stage 5 and 6.

I watched your run again last night and compared paths through certain parts of the game. Our paths through the field of death are vastly different, but they both work. It's not the only place (I don't quick kill the stage 2 boss - I go for extra XP since it is an easy place for me to get it), but I love that about MM.

If I eat a bullet in the wrong spot in UD it's over and my run is pretty much fucked. Even now. I never feel that way in MM.

Watching you tackle the 1st form of the last boss is going to help a shit ton since I was hanging in front of him during that one pattern. I didn't know diagonals were the key there. And stage 6 isn't too bad. Only thing I really need a plan for are the bullet spamming things.

Now that you got the clear again play a credit every other day or so. As long as it doesn't feel like a chore mind you.

That's actually quite interesting. You should try to record a run or something, I'm always interested in seeing the array of different strats possible in Mars Matrix. A few times I've accidentally missed the quick kill and ended up getting twice as much experience or so on the second stage boss, but in my mind it's sort of unneccessary risk compared to trying to keep the chain going in stage 3 which is quite hard, but can make 500,000 difference or more depending on how the other stages go. On my earlier run yesterday, I screwed almost everything up that could be, but ended up still getting around 1.5 mil by the end of stage 3 just because of an unusually high chain (probably only +100 difference or so, too.)

Oh, I'm glad it helped! Yeah, I definitely find diagonals to help there. I don't know if it's the only way, but you just get that much more space to react to the pattern. The sixth stage, IMO, is really easy when you manage to do everything right, but usually even one error is pretty deadly (though some are less deadly than others). I feel like local rank control is the reason why this is the case. Did you see the video with yt annotations, btw?

Yeah, this is basically the idea of relearning the game. If I can continue to keep in practice it won't take me so long once I actually want to go further and all that.

So I played a single credit of batrider at magfest, first time ever playing on a cab...got my first no miss on envy with only a single partial bomb~ It's been months since I've even touched the game so I'm pretty happy about that haha

Continued my vendetta against Gradius series tonight with a Gradius II FC clear. Easy game, aside from all the blood boiling cheap deaths. Didn't bother with the loop, maybe if I ever feel like playing it again I'll give it a go.

Managed to clear Lotus Land Story lunatic Wednesday night. Something I was sort of working on and off since December (Stella Vanity being one of the reasons why I didn't really focus on this). Pretty rough run with a bunch of mistakes and a bit of bomb spamming (and the game is generous with bombs). Was also my first time seeing stage 6 on lunatic.
