Re: Video Card differences
Maybe the arcadeVGA comes with a '15KHz-ready' driver pre-installed ?

Re: Video Card differences
From their page: "Contains 28 built-in 15Khz video graphics modes tailored specially for emulation. All of these modes also available on a PC monitor." I've never used one of these and I'm suddenly seized with the desire to know whether these output RGBs at 15KHz. Everything seems to suggest they're VGA and HDMI style outputs, instead.
According to these folks all you need is a DVI-D to component converter, at least to deal with a component (YPbPr) set. That should be able to pass along 15KHz signals.

Is this going to work. this cable: http://www.pccables.com/cgi-bin/orders6 ... rtno=00615 from the vga port on the vga5000 to monitor. Something tells me that its not that simple..

Re: Video Card differences
We're basically having the same discussion in two different places:
http://shmups.system11.org/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=52868
My bigger (well, big) post there talks a bit about different monitors and support. It all comes down to what monitor you're intent on using.
http://www.ultimarc.com/monfaq.html gives a good answer to many of these questions, though it's potentially misleading in a few particular cases. But the long and short of it is that your typical VGA PC monitor, with the 15-pin connector that the Radeon HD 5450 was originally designed to connect to, doesn't support low enough resolutions to get arcade-accurate imagery across.

Re: Video Card differences
My plan is to connect to a BVM D24e1wu, and the cable i mentioned is vga to 4 bnc which the 4th is composite sync if im not mistaken. The same type that goes from scart to rgb-bnc connector. Here is a guy that test out differences between crt and lcd with the ATI HD 5450 card. He is using VGA to SCART. Its from here I got the idea to use vga to 4-bnc: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Iwq-blhOtE

Re: Video Card differences
OK. Following Fudoh's advice, I think what you need is a VGA to BNC adapter - easy enough to find - and hopefully a T-connector will combine the H and V sync pulses. If that doesn't work, you'd need something else to combine it. There still are some options Fudoh mentioned in the other thread for dealing with the syncs.

Re: Video Card differences
I have read whats in the other tread now. And to me I still believe this cable: http://www.pccables.com/cgi-bin/orders6 ... rtno=00615 is the right one since the sync are combined.

Re: Video Card differences
Just to update how this went by. When I finally got all I needed to connect the pc and bvm together I found out, as suspected, that it was not that easy just use a vga to 4 bnc cable between the pc and bvm. I ended up using a Extron RGB 203Rxi to combine the sync. Vga cable from Arcade vga to extron and 4 bnc cables (RGBs) from Extron to bvm. But to get a decent picture on the bvm, I had to find the exact resolution. otherwise I just got a very blurry and flickery image. 640x480 seemed to be the correct. That is however for windows. But when I fired up a NES emulator with original NES resolution (256x240) and set the monitor at 4:3 ratio, the result by far exceeded my expectations with this setup. The image is so sharp and crisp as I never seen it before. Just beautiful!
The cool thing is that i can connect both my Asus lcd pc monitor and the bvm at the same time. When I duplicate the image I can compare both of them and see the huge difference in picture. The lcd produces a flat lifeless image with no detail and the colors sucks. Its very nice to see how these games actually look like.
