PVM under/overscan buttons are programmable. Good for 16:9

Post by BazookaBen »

All you have to do is change the H/V width/height in the service menu while underscan or overscan is enabled. Then they will go to that same size/shape whenever you hit the button.

This is very useful for forced-widescreen games like Zelda and Xenoblade. You get 120 more lines of resolution when the Wii is set to 16:9. Should be pretty useful for DVD movies too.

Also useful to stretch low-res arcade ports that are squished horizontally (Ghosts and Goblins on Wii, Gradius on Saturn), because the original resolution is different from the console's output resolution.

Isn't this common knowledge  ?

The BVMs even got four slots you can program as you like. Underscan 4:3, Overscan 4:3, Underscan 16:9, Overscan 16:9 and you even get the four setting on a per signal basis (e.g. once for PAL, once for NTSC).

I definitely never heard about it. I'm glad I found it before I pick up Xenoblade again.
