Just in case the story page elicits more about HOW the war broke out in the first place.

Meanwhile, I'll transcribe the stage and boss names...Romanizations are guesswork on my part. I'm not sure what the text outside of the red boxes for the stage pictures is, though. I think stages 9-11 are described along with the boss names.

Stage 1: Jupiter Ring. Boss: Gokkey (go-(tsu)-kii)
Stage 2: Planet Neledee (ne-re-de-(ii)). Boss: Marshulo (maa-shu-ro)
Stage 3: Planet Enora (e-no-ra). Boss: Beenohn (bii-noo-n)
Stage 4: Planet Oz (a-zu). Boss: Homaili (ho-ma-i-rii)
Stage 5: Battleship Nido (ni-do). Boss: Makishim Fighter (ma-ki-shi-mu-fu-(a)-i-taa)
Stage 6: Planet Luma (ru-ma). Boss: Gainschain (ga-i-n-sha-i-n)
Stage 7: Planet Tipha (te-(i)-fu-(a). Boss: Consamgeneer (ko-n-sa-mu-ji-(e)-nii)
Stage 8: Planet Karohn (ka-roo-n). Boss: Santafe (sa-n-ta-fu-(e)) (Interestingly, it looks like the temple's background was originally yellow, rather than magenta)
Boss 9: Tiaman (te-(i)-a-ma-n), Tesaiple (te-sa-i-pu-ru)
Boss 10: Skating Dadi (su-kee-te-(i)-n-gu-da-de-(i))
Boss 11: Jacob (ji-(e)-(i)-ko-bu)

This is actually a really cool looking manual - I always wanted to know if there was more details on how the ship itself was supposed to look like. Thanks for the heads up Skyknight!

Stage five boss might just be Maxim fighter

Going strictly on a hunch, "Maximum Fighter" would be a pretty accurate description of the fifth stage's badass jetfighter boss. Always liked that thing and its cluster grenades, especially on HAADO MODO.

The light grey grid pattern on GL's manual and cart illustrations always gives me US/EU Master System vibes, though thankfully the rather nice artwork doesn't.

Pretty sure stage seven's boss should be Lonesome Jenny (RoNSaMuJeNii) and stage 10 is most likely Skating Daddy (as odd as that sounds).

Since everyone else is playing the game, my guess for boss 9 is Disciple. And 8 Santa Fe.

There are some nice drawings of the Ship in the manual. I have never owned GL so it is nice to see it.

Not a bad main sprite too on the MD.

The first is an alias for gokiburi which means cockroach. The second sounds too different from marshal and more like a name. But well, who knows if they even all make sense.
Besides that there's apparently a Golgo 13 character whose name is spelled exactly the same as the one of the stage 4 boss at least. Maybe something like "O'Malley"? As stupid as that would be for a boss name.
