Best way to procure an XRGB Framemeister?

Post by GateofThunderforceIII »

I've been thinking about getting a Framemeister a lot lately. I've looked at Amazon (I've had bad experiences with buying from stores from Japan through Amazon) and this morning I discovered Solaris Japan and they were about $70 cheaper than Amazon. So, for those who are in the know, what is the best way to get one? And any personal testimonies on the quality of PS2/GC/Xbox games played through it?? Thanks!

It's been my observation that Amazon is terrible for slightly older release electronics. If it's not a regular distributor selling things, you're likely to be dealing with people trying to pull off price gouging on the unbewares.

Personally I've never had a problem with Solaris Japan. Bought an XRGB-mini there 3 years ago - no problem. Had several other orders without issue - in one case they promptly issued a refund when they discovered that they didn't have any stock. That being said other people had some issues:

Defective XRGB-minis

Defective NTSC-J Xbox 360s

However these things do tend to happen sometimes and you'll hear more easily about the bad over the good. And any problems with gray market products are a royal pain in the backside especially as the cumulative shipping and handling costs can mount pretty quickly. So know what you are getting into, importing/gray market purchases aren't as cut and dry when something goes wrong as purchasing merchandise at a local retail brick and mortar store.

I personally don't have an issue with ordering from Solaris Japan again - but ultimately you have to decide how much risk you can tolerate.

  • Plan on using it for 240p/480i titles (15 kHz RGBS)
  • Not so glorious for 480p (31 kHz RGBS) if you are picky.
  • Not so hot for YPbPr component video if you are picky.
Have a good look at
