Can anyone here school me on custom timings for MAME and RetroArch? I'm looking to get a new flat-panel PC monitor and want to know of it can be adjusted for certain arcade games like Mortal Kombat (54hz) and R-Type (55hz) for buttery-smoothness and low lag.
Can this all be achieved with an Intel GPU? I'm building a PC and will be using my Core i5-4690K for graphics until I can get a GPU.

Re: custom timings and flat panels
The get anything non-60Hz (*) from a LCD, you need a G-Sync monitor along with a higher-end Nvidia card.
* well, to be more exact, most monitors support a wider range of signals, but these will get converted to 60Hz straight.

Basically the World is waiting for the Messiah: http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/news_archiv ... b270hu_ips
Prepare your money, expect it to be between $700 and $1000.
And moar money: you can get a G-Sync compatible GPU for about $150, check the few custom GTX 750 Ti featuring DisplayPort (necessary) or the new 960 (or wait for a 960 Ti to be announced).
EDIT: here's Messiah #2, even moar expensive, for those who like super wide screen: http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/news_archiv ... er_xr341ck
