Gran Turismo 4 = w00t! +soundtrack rant

Post by CecilMcW00t »

Ive been playing this sucker, and I have to admit, so far it is really fantastic. I've been playing the GT games since the first (even though I skipped the 3rd one, I was a late PS2 owner...), and they just keep improving it. But one thing that has always irked me is how in every single NA release they remove Masahiro Andoh's original soundtrack from the game... I mean I understand it may be more popular for the NA teens and whatnot to get thier mainstream rock/pop/techno/whatever fix but Andoh-san does really great for the game which seams perfectly with the game. Unlike most of the songs they pick. For example, the game has like 65 songs, even songs by another Japanese artist Daiki Kasho... yet they still manage to cut Andoh's tracks. I used to think it was simply because it was Japanese music, but since Kasho's tracks are in... I don't have a clue as to why they do it. Well this time they left one song, Moon Over the Castle, the GT theme song. T_T

I'm sorry I just had to get this off my chest, I know I could just get a cd player and whatnot but damn, why can't they give consumers a choice of what they want to listen instead of forcing this stuff down our throats?

/end pointless rant

But more importantly: did they leave out the neGcon support again?

EDIT: Yep, they did. Asshats.

I thought that the NA soundtrack for the first Gran Turismo was far superior to the original japanese soundtrack. About the only downside to it was that they had to use intrsumental versions of Cubenate's songs, but cruising along to ""Body Burn" was quite awesome. I remember hearing people bitch about how the Japanese soundtrack was superior, so I picked up a japanese copy just to check it out.

The soundtrack was a snoozefest.

Ideally they should include both and allow the player to choose which they want to listen to, but for the first game they did a good thing with swapping out the soundtrack imo. Never been able to get a hold of the european versions of the games, so I don't know how those soundtracks compare.

On a sidenote, I dislike the series (whereas I was able to overlook a bunch of the first game's flaws, the series has gone on and the flaws haven't been fixed) and don't see why people continue to support it. It's a piss poor sim and it's a piss poor arcade game. Polyphony Digital needs to go back to making Motor Toon games.

Well, I guess I just like the feel of the controls. Yes the AI does blow tremendously, you'd think they'd fix it up since there is no online play. >_<
And I like collecting the different cars, heck I even bought the AE86 that was seen in Initial D, that was pretty cool.

And I wasn't necessarily saying the JP songs are superior as I have a huge playlist on NA version of songs that I really like, but it would have been nice to let the consumer choose what they wanted, it'snot like room was an issue for 7-8 extra songs... jeez..

I'm enjoying this game as well. I'm so glad they finally kept the GT Theme "Moon Over the Castle." The intro cinema rocked my boxers, with the holy-sounding verison of the GT Theme building up to Van Halen's "Panama." The sense of speed is pretty good too, especially once you get the elite race cars.

I also love all the vintage cars that in the game, my garage has quite alot of them from hunting in used car lots. One of my favorite cars right now is the 1970 Chapperal 2J Race Car; it's insanely fast for such an old car.

There's alot of cool cars, but also alot of pointless ones too. I won a 1886 Mercedes Benz Patent Wagen and tried driving it, could only go 11 mph tops. I'm glad Polypony paid respect to Mr. Benz and all, but's thats also time and money wasted that could have been used modeling a faster car. Still, it's a fun novelity.

I'm still wondering why would anyone buy GT4 when they have already played GT3. Don't forget GT4:prologue and the upcoming online append disc. This franchise is a classic case of overmilking and a genre in sore need of competition.

I bought the game because I'm also a car fanatic and the EB games demo unit totally blew me away. I'd agree with the Prologue and Concept discs though; that's a serious case of milking. Them axeing the online mode was a bummer, but at least it gives them time to fix it.

GT4 is going to have some competition, there's Forza Motorsport for Xbox, and Konami is making Enthusia Racing.

I'm waiting for GT4 Mobile on the PSP. Given the amount of time the GT games take to progress, I don't want to be spending all of that time in front of my home screen. Having a race every now and then in portable form sounds like the way.

I know it's not Gran Turismo, but Sega GT on Xbox has online mode, doesn't it?

Yes, sold separately from Sega GT 2002. Just like they're planning to do with GT4's online mode.

Sega GT is kind of an unfortunate series anyway. The first one had a lot of good ideas, but it lacked the large number of manufacturers, cars and tracks. It also didn't really reach the graphical potential that other racers on the Dreamcast exhibited, and the controls weren't so great either.

The second one (2002) was really generic, basically took all of the interesting ideas out of Sega GT and made it even less sim-like. On the other hand, it controlled well, added some fairly unique vehicles (if not a large variety) and looked pretty sweet.

Bought the game today, just finished b-licence and sunday cup. I`m usually not so into driving games, this will be the only game of this kind I buy for the ps2. Seems to be very reminiscent of the first gran turismo, which is a good thing imo. Graphics okay, fun to play. Nice game. Now i have to play a round of Raiden 2.....

@RoushiMSX: Could you please mention the flaws in the game? I did play it and liked it more or less (Bleemcast OWNZ!), though I'm more of a fan of the Wipeout series when it comes to racing.
