TBH, I don't think future proofing graphics is a big deal at the monitor specs we're talking about, and 1440p above 60Hz will be so much better than previous options that I don't really care about 4K
Me neither, the only major things I desire beyond that point (144Hz IPS 1440p G-Sync/FreeSync) are 32" size and 'glow-free'.
And of course always low-lag but that goes without saying.

This is nice, 30" 16:10 monitors just fit in Japanese candy cabs by the way, but since they're usually all shit people always go with the smaller but much better-rounded 27".
I bet this one will be another single-input model without built-in scaler, which is still a problem for anyone who would think about using it as a replacement for a dead crt.

Cable fixed it! Got a new HDMI 3 FT cable in the mail yesterday works perfect. Not sure why the other failed, it doesnt have the ferrite cores, so that could be it. Either way, works great with my xrgb now.

Thanks.

Hi everyone, :)

I am also on the look for a shumps friendly monitor but that I can also work in design and 3d modeling on it.

after reading the previous threads and information I would like a 27 inches ips panel as response times are important for me.

I would also like to have a stand that supports tate but is not as important to me as long is vesa compatible.

My budget is arround 250$ and I was about to settle on the Dell S2740L but when i read Xyga opinion on the monitor it seriously concerned me in my decision.

Any recomendations?

Also anyone have thoughs on the LG 27MB65PY-B?

I haven't read any reviews of the 27MB65PY-B, but by the specs it looks really good for a standard AH-IPS monitor, mainly because it's well-equipped.

All I can say with little doubt regarding LG is that their 'MP' range of IPS monitors (like the 27MP65HQ or VQ) is the current best 'normal/average IPS monitor' range on the market, and their 'big bro' LG 27MB85R-B is the King of all IPS monitors (well, at least of the 60Hz realm).
That one is way out of your budget though.

So, the typical LG Full-HD IPS monitors are really completely okay but nothing fancy, expect a ligh-matte coating and corner glow when viewing dark contents from an angle.
In terms of response and lag you should be okay, normally all of their IPS monitors pretty much set the satandard in terms of response and lag.
What beats them by a hair (and I mean a hair) are a couple of Samsung AD-PLS that have more corner glow and much poorer equipment, like the S27D390H.

On the Dell side the S2715H is full glossy, which means a lot for people who are interested in 'clarity' and do not care about screen reflection.
It's good but poorly equipped and therefore considered more expensive than the LG you mentioned.
Also be aware Dell have atrocious factory quality control and issues are more frequent on their monitors vs. other name brands.

Whatever the model and brand you choose, there's always a risk of 'BLB' (backlight bleeding, or 'leaking') which translates by a visible 'light stain' somewhere on the screen, it can be extremely obnoxious on dark contents/scenes.
So make sure you always get your IPS monitor from a vendor with really, really, hassle-free returns policy, just in case because BLB is a common flaw of LCD monitors and a big issue for IPS in particular.

PS: if you are ready to spend big money in a few months and get the most avanced IPS monitor ever, just google Acer XB270HU.

I have said this on this forum several times; the best monitor for shmups, actually the best monitor on the market when all factors considered is the Benq BL2411.
24" 1920x1200 16:10. A 16:10 monitor in TATE is wider than a 16:9 monitor. The game screen when at the correct aspect ratio is larger than on a 27" 16:9 monitor. I am fussy about my hardware/setup and experience I could not go back to a 16:9 for any task or reason.
Search Benq BL2411 or my posts for what I have written and pictures I have posted.

It is a professional / business monitor, at least it is advertised as such. When compared to a consumer marketed monitor the difference in quality is night and day.

No shit all of the above is my humble opinion :D

I'm just looking out for people who want the best experience, if I steer anyone wrong they are allowed to slap me, of course.

Yes sure 16:10 is better for 4:3 in terms of comfort (more convenient on a desktop), but owners complained they couldn't always achieve proper letterboxed and pillarboxed 16:9 and 4:3 on that model.
A number of similar models from other brands since then have been found to feature proper aspect ratio control, check the monitors thread on wecravegamestoo or just recently the Eizo EV2455 review on tftcentral (since the issue was raised about the Dell U2415 they have been checking on this).

Thanks everyone for the suggestions, in the end I decided for the 27MP65HQ but in a confusion bought the 27MB65PY-B .

It should arrive in a couple of weeks, as soon as I get it I will post my firsts impressions of it.

Well you've bought the best-equipped of the the two, now I suspect the panel and performance are the same, but who knows ? (still no reviews available)

At least for the additional cost it's got;
- speakers (wimpy but, heh)
- audio in/out
- USB ports
- built-in power
- DisplayPort
- fully-adjustable stand /w pivot
- better bezel (thicker and grey-ish bezels are better for the perception of blacks)

It just lacks an HDMI input for convenience, you will need an adapter if you want to connect an HD console or BR player.

Looking forwart to read your impressions ! :)

Fudoh wrote:As a 24" 16:9, standard 1080p IPS panel for every day use I can still fully recommend the Dell 2414H (I use two of them). Very low lag and it tilts in both directions by default, which isn't this common, even with brandnew models.
I got me one (Dell U2414) for my XBox 360, but unfortunately have some 'sound issues': With the Dell came the recommended standard soundbar for the model, namely the AC 511. The soundbar works perfect when connected tm my notebook via USB (just for test reasons, to see whether the soundbar works at all, connected straight to the laptop, without the Dell U2414) - but gives no sound at all when connected via USB to the monitor, and the monitor connected to the 360 via HDMI. The soundbar does get energy from the monitor via USB ('on' light works). It neither gives sound when connected to the monitor via the 3,5 mm stereo jack, while the monitor definitely gets sound from the 360 via HDMI (tried with headphones connected straight into the stereo jack of the monitor). It's just the soundbar that won't provide the sound when connected to the monitor, neither via USB, neither via the stereo jack-connection.

It seems the soundbar AC 511 needs to be connected to a PC to work - can it be? I thought the Dell U2414 to be one of the possible perfect solutions for XBox 360-gaming, and didn't even consider there may be an issue with the standard soundbar...

Any ideas how to get the setup XBox360 <-> Dell U2414 plus the soundbar AC 511 to work? Many thanks for any hints & help!!

USB on the monitor is definitely just a built-in hub. There's no audio routed from HDMI to USB, which would be crazy complex.

Either the AC511 has a switch to select between USB DAC use and 3.5mm analogue input or your XBox is set to a sound format that the sound bar can't work with (multi-channel?).

But honestly - who would want to use such a sound bar ? Especially in tate with sound just coming from one side. Seems like a broken concept to me.

Thanks for quick help!
The AC511 doesn't have a switch - so it's a simple change of the sound format in the according menu of the 360? Thought I tried, but will do again. Any idea what will be the right format?

Idea was to get rid of cables etc. as much as possible. Plus for yoko the soundbar is probably the most elegant solution (if it works, of course...). For tate it's a... well, 'second best solution', for sure.
Hmm, if problems can't be solved, I'll need to get audios anyway. Sound connection will be via the stereo jacks definitely, in case?!

You need to set the audio to 2CH LPCM.

As long as the monitor does output something through it's headphone output, the soundbar should be able to output it. So it still seems a bit weird. What about other stereo sources ? Does sound from your PC work (without USB connection from the PC) ?

The audio options to choose from are:
- Digitales Stereo // Digital Stereo
- Dolby Digital 5.1
- Dolby Digital 5.1 mit WMA Pro // Dolby Digital 5.1 with WMA Pro

Or do I need to set them elsewhere?
(now here:
Konsoleneinstellungen -> Audio -> Digitalausgang -> 'Digitales Stereo' or 'Dolby Digital 5.1' or 'Dolby Digital mit WMA Pro'
Console Settings -> Audio -> Digital Output -> 'Digital Stereo' etc.)

And no: no sound if the soundbar is connected only via stereo jack connection to the PC (while getting energy elsewhere via USB).
I even get sound from the Monitor (-> XBox 360) if I connect the soundbar via stereo jack to the Monitor, but keep it connected to the PC via USB for energy. It seems it all comes down to the PC connection..

[Sorry for on/off-communication. Hard work times..]
