Help me make sense of SNK's PS2 library

Post by JBC »

I'm attempting to create a checklist of SNK's 2D fighters available for PS2 that will cover the best version of each entry in all respective series. It's a very dense library & somewhat hard to keep track of. From what I can tell, the following list should cover the majority of titles, using King Of Fighters as the base series & spinning off into related entries. Really what I'm wanting to know is if I'm missing anything.

In this instance, region is of no importance with the exception of KoF Orochi Saga, which is more complete in the US version. Unless I'm overlooking major region differences between the other compilations?

Here's my note:
-main-
KoF Orochi Saga (94-98)
KoF Nests (99-01)
KoF 02/03 (02-03)
KoF XI
KoF Neowave

-remakes-
KoF 94 Rebout
KoF 98 Ultimate Match
KoF 02 Ultimate Match

-related-
NeoGeo Battle Coliseum
SNK vs Capcom
Fatal Fury Battle Archives vol 1
Fatal Fury Battle Archives vol 2
Garou
Art of Fighting Anthology
World Heroes Anthology
Samurai Showdown Anthology
Last Blade 1 & 2
Fu'un Super Combo

-other-
Capcom vs SNK
Capcom vs SNK 2

So am I fairly complete?

There's also ADK Tamashii (Ninja Masters, Aggressors of Dark Kombat) and Sunsoft Collection (Waku Waku 7, Galaxy Fight), but yeah, that list has all their 2D fighters.
The stand alone release of KOF 2001 it's different from the one included in Nests Hen, and some of the localization of the Neo Geo Online Collection are atrocious compared to the japanese versions.

I'll probably get those for the heck of it. I do like Galaxy Fight a lot & am curious about how it will look on my new CRT.

The US version of Orochi Saga is poorly put together. I don't know if there was a way to get original '94 and '98 in Japan, but at the very least you should get the Japan version of Orochi Saga.

The original Capcom vs SNK is PlayStation or Dreamcast only. They're not even SNK games (that would be SNK vs Capcom, first name is developer), but oh well.

Yeah, that's why they are listed under 'other'. I'm doing this with Capcom as well, but it's easier to keep track of their stuff.
