pvm-20n6u not working.

Post by mvsfan »

i just got my pvm-20n6u today. it came in a big box and looks like it was packed very well. It doesnt work i cant even bring up the menu.

the power is working the power switch lights up green. When i first turn it on it degaussed and sounded like it was going to come on.

I know well how these work, i have a pvm-14n6u that works fine.

I took a look inside and it doesnt look like any wires are loose or anything.

what could be wrong with it?

Here's a service manual to get you started:

thanks ed. thats what i was looking for.

i notice there are two fuses in this monitor. Would one be for the osd and buttons and one for the other stuff?

Well i just got home again. Ive been looking at this monitor a bit and they put two fuses all the way up front by the buttons so the board has to come out.

a project for tomorrow.

Ic 601 is the controller Ic according to the service manual it controls the buttons and the OSD. It would appear that Ic 601 is not getting power on VDD or the Ic is not working right. that would explain why the power switch lights up and i can feel static on the tube and hear degauss but the OSD never comes up and Input isnt displayed.

I cant find my Hv probe at the moment to find out. the main pcb is going to have to be pulled out to check the ic.

is there a way that i could quickly tell if the tube in this monitor is good? could i get a rgb signal to it somehow off of one of the headers on the board?

it sounds like the tube is coming on like it should but i think the low voltage electronics that control the inputs arent working.

Update: I got an answer to this problem so ill post it so someone else who has the same problem might be able to fix it.

I posted my problem with the monitor somewhere else, but there was one thing i noticed since posting here that i didnt mention before. I noticed that there was a thin green line going all the way across horizontally in the center of the screen.

someone said that it sounds like my vertical deflection circuit is collapsed. I looked it up and thats exactly what the monitor is doing.

The tv site i found that had information on it http://www.riddledtv.com/journal/Vertical/ said that its very common for the solder to bust loose on the vertical deflection IC because of how hot it gets during normal operation. I think having this monitor shipped just sped up an existing problem, and caused the joints to fail.

So at least now i know what direction Im going in and i have a very good idea whats wrong with my monitor.

Ill have to wait for the hv probe i ordered to get here then im going to take the A board out and check for broken solder.

by the way ed thanks for that service manual because of it i know which ic is for vertical.
