Dodonpachi Better on Saturn or PS1?
Dodonpachi Better on Saturn or PS1?
I'm really stumped about which version I should get. Because the PS1 costs considerably more and this game looks interesting to me, but is it really worth the extra 40 or so bucks? Some say Saturn is better cuz you can choose ships? Some say PS1 is fast but too fast and that makes it harder. Others say Saturn version is pixelated. Wondering if you guys can help me out here. This does get complicated when the same game is different on another system.

Whichever gives you more credibility as a collector.

Both are terrible. Play it either in Mame or buy the PCB.

The PSX version is better by a slight margin. But both are perfectly playable in tate. You're better off just playing it in MAME. Why accept compromised home ports at all when there's a superior alternative?
bVork it up!

I think most will give the edge to the PS version.
I picked up the Saturn version years ago before I could play PS imports and never thought anything of it as I feel it is highly playable as is. After reading about how inferior the Saturn version is according to some, the only thing I do notice now on mine is that the explosions are pixelated but that is not a deal breaker for me at all and find no need to have to double dip on the PS version. If it was lacking a Tate mode or something that might be different but that just me.

This might be as good a thread as any other to ask:
I've heard people saying that chaining in the PS1 version of DDP is fucked up, and that because of this you can't fully chain the 2nd stage. Is that so?
I have recently started playing it but I need more practice with C-S.
One thing I absolutely don't like is that the PS port seems to have a slightly different resolution in TATE mode.
On my TV I can't see the vertical chain gauge on the leftmost part of the screen, so I'm always timing my chains by heart
That did not happen at all on the Saturn port.

i'd like to point out that you already can't full chain stages 1 and 3 so breaking 2 as well sounds almost like an improvement (it's consistent!)
Rage Pro, Rage Fury, Rage MAXX!

What?! It's been a while since I played the PS1 version but are you sure that you can't choose your ship on that version?GaiaSeed wrote:Some say Saturn is better cuz you can choose ships?

You don't need a reason to dodge things. http://www.liliumstg.blogspot.com/2015/ ... s-log.html
Re: Dodonpachi Better on Saturn or PS1?
You need to choose it in the options and you can't change the ship when you continue.d3vak wrote:What?! It's been a while since I played the PS1 version but are you sure that you can't choose your ship on that version?

Re: Dodonpachi Better on Saturn or PS1?
It's a solid port but very bare-bones on options and extras, and you need to complete the visual novel to unlock it. It's only worth it for trying out the loleriffic Kinect controls.Bananamatic wrote:isn't Instant Brain the best port?

That's for the link, that's what I needed to read.Jaimers wrote:http://shmups.system11.org/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=37679
However, downright deeming the ports garbage is too harsh
they're just different, I'd say
differences by 1 or 2 pixels? a few %'s in speed?
sure, that will destroy anyone's strategies when coming from PCB/MAME
primordial question seems to be how much you love DDP
love much? get a cab
a little love and a console? I'd got for Saturn

This one's specifically mentioned in the "topics to avoid" subheading of the Forum FAQ, so I'll be locking this.
