Re: Where the Darius Love at?
Well Chisus, I know why you like C-F-J: certainly the toughest route and clearly the best for optimal scoring. Enormous enemy swarms + tons of meteor showers + several mini-bosses and snakes + Phantom Castle shell dismemberment = digits.
One thing that was weird is on C I kept getting my shield taken out entirely with one hit from Hyper Jaw - was strange, because I had collected all the shield orbs in the stage. Does he have a certain weapon that strips it in one?
Anyway, got to Gluttons three times today and by attempt three he was on a whisker, but still sent me on my way in a flash of light. Tomorrow perhaps.
Can someone tell me a strat for Phantom Castle's homing laser swarms? I try to go top left corner, hesitate a moment until they lock, and then go down and forward in an L motion. If I mistime he still tags me and sometimes he just goes nuts with aggressive patterns sending out several laser swarms at the same time and I have no time to get back up-screen, forcing me to defend with the Burst Cannon - which is finite in this battle, no real opportunity for fast recharging.
Tips welcome.

Seconded, this is the exact same spot I always get wasted in this course. I've yet to beat him, and I can't go to the arcade often enough for long term practiceSkykid wrote:Tips welcome.

Re: Where the Darius Love at?
For some of them, you can actually pass through the set because it's in two halves. For the rest, it's a matter of baiting them to go one way, then quickly moving the other; if you stand still, it won't work out. I don't really have anything for when he goes nuts and just dumps them though...

Re: Where the Darius Love at?
Hm, that's not going to be quite enough to pin down a comfortable strategy for me - I'm not at the point where I'm ready to be attempting to go through those lasers, and I already have the baiting thing in practice: it's just my baiting is only convincing 30% of the time, the rest are either licking shots or shielded by whatever Cannon I have in stock.trap15 wrote:For some of them, you can actually pass through the set because it's in two halves. When he goes bananas is where it's tough, especially because he's usually pinging those other purple sniper lasers - or the two pronged blue ones - as part of the mix up, and avoiding those often drops me where I don't want to be when I realise he's just loosed a cluster of the evil red ones.
That said I'm killing him off way more regularly, and Glutton just seems long winded rather than overly difficult, so I think I'll get my J clear soon enough.

According to Mr. HDD60311, Phantom Castle switches forms only if you destroy all of one (or more) sides of him. What he does in one of his replays is knock off most of the parts, and spend a bunch of time just dealing damage to the core. Then when he finally trips him into the second form, he lets off a burst cancel and kills him before he can even do anything scary. A very fine strat!

Interesting! So stripping him guarantees he'll Burst Cannon straight away?trap15 wrote:According to Mr. HDD60311, Phantom Castle switches forms only if you destroy all of one (or more) sides of him. I tried to take out all his armour but could never figure out the exact method - but yesterday he did go into the Burst Cannon immediately on one run, I was just too pussy to take up the risk.
That said his Burst Cannon duel offering is really straightforward compared to other bosses, shouldn't be difficult, so I guess it's do or die. I'll try to go back to the arcade this afternoon.

Ripped all the frames of all the segments on Golden Ogre from Darius Gaiden. Will be doing something cool with these later, but thought they might be appreciated

No, but it's never too late to start (with Darius Gaiden or G-Darius).mehguy wrote:Lol, am I the only person who has never played a darius game?
Sweet rip, Trap. I know it must have been a hell of a lot of work, but I wonder why the other DG bosses weren't in pseudo-3D either. Golden Ogre, for as big of a wuss as he is, moves quite gracefully.

Is the PSX version of G-Darius the version 2? It does have the beginner which is supposed to be in version 2..

No tips dude, just practice and practice and practice and practice...
Re: Where the Darius Love at?
Yeah the player 2 side trick is an absolute rollercoaster.
How many distinctive levels does it have in this mode? It's 28 stages but at least 1 seemed duplicated to me. And 1 or 2 levels seemed to last all of 30 seconds before a boss came again.
But still, its an epic journey by most standards..

Zones K and O and Zones P and U are the same stages with different bosses at the end of them.
Of course, that's just an opinion.

Seems that Ver.2 was made after the PS version, but that's about the same unless anyone can figure out version differences.tizerist wrote:Is the PSX version of G-Darius the version 2? It does have the beginner which is supposed to be in version 2..

Re: Where the Darius Love at?
Some dude on NeoGaf started a DARIUSBURST Another Chronicle EX awareness thread. Join the fun...
DARIUSBURST Another Chronicle EX Awareness Thread on NeoGafWhat we want Taito to do:
1) A full, true to arcade port of the game for current gen consoles and/or PC. Nothing more and nothing less.
2) Full arcade stick support.
What we can do:
As I said, I'm not interested in a fruitless and most likely artificial petition. If anyone wants to create one, go ahead, but that's not the point.
The goal is to have STG fans make Taito know that it could be beneficial for them and for the franchise if they would make a direct port of DARIUSBURST Another Chronicle EX for home consoles and/or PC/Steam (preferably PC imo, for the inclusion of a dual screen mode, so it can be played as intended).
Are you an active member of genre specific communities like shmups.system11.org or others? Please let them know, spread the word to STG communities in your country, your city, your neighborhood.
Are you Japanese? Please send a word to Taito Corp.
No matter where you are in this world, translate and spread this message to the local STG community, or simply write your own message, but let them know of our cause.
Re: Where the Darius Love at?
after some awaraness threads, i honestly think that the port information from taito should be established before anyone thinks of publishing a dbac crack
Re: Where the Darius Love at?
I highly doubt that Taito is even dreaming of a DBAC port. They probably only bothered to put out DBSP because of smartphones.
NeoGAF aside, that topic is kinda dumb because of the silly difficulty claims from people who call themselves "hardcore fans". Darius and II are pretty hard almost all the time, Force is also really hard just to learn how to play properly, Gaiden can actually be literally impossible if you run into Crusty Hammer or Storm Causer sometimes instead of just scrubbing it out with Risk Storage or whatever, and DBAC is a pretty sick challenge just in the normal Original Mode alone from what I've seen.
Does any given entry compare to Mushi Ultras or whatever? Of course not, and it's just as insane to even try that comparison as it is to play Ultra to begin with... but Darius is far above things like Deathsmiles or Mushi Originals. Maybe if you waste your time credit-feeding for half an hour or even use cheats, Darius games just might be "easy"... that also applies to every game ever made.
I do agree that mail needs to be sent straight to Taito (as in the part of Taito that actually makes things and not some random publishing arm), instead of a bunch of people hoping that some useless online petition for a supposedly niche game is going to get something done.
Has it been ported at all? I think the PS2 port is just the original version...

Re: Where the Darius Love at?
I never noticed the ship being invincible while firing the capture ball. Unless I read that wrong. Neat.
And boss time outs? Ha, sometimes it feels like the boss fights in G-Darius are so long it would be hard not to get a time out.

The boss disparity in Gaiden is huge. I've yet to come up with a clean way of killing Crusty Hammer that doesn't involve bomb spam. The only other boss I've cleared (sans Risk Storage) was Vermillion Coronatus, and it was by the skin of my teeth. Though I guess I got close with Curious Chandelier.Despatche wrote:Gaiden can actually be literally impossible if you run into Crusty Hammer or Storm Causer sometimes instead of just scrubbing it out with Risk Storage

Re: Where the Darius Love at?
Hey guys.
I've been lurking here for a while, but i finally decided to join and say hi. Also this is my first post.
I'm the guy that did the awareness thread in NeoGAF. I know it's almost impossible, don't have any doubts, i just think it's always better to make some noise than doing nothing.
I'm glad that someone already posted the thread so i don't have to go through the embarrassment to self promote myself.
Please, if you are interested in the initiative, make some noise and let them know.
Also i need to inform you that it seems that the overseas inquiries email Taito provides returns an error as you need to be accepted to email to that group, so you may not want to bother with that.
I hope some of you are interested in the whole deal, and also hope for some fun discussions with you on this board from now on.
Thanks for reading.

The thing is, things like auto-fire and beginner difficulty are actually in the PS1 version. It seems to have at least some of the features of v2, so i'm thinking it's a semi-update or maybe a full one, I don't know..Batchee wrote:Differences between v1 and v2

Hey again. It seems that the email to Taito actually reached someone and i got a response from them today.
I updated the NeoGAF thread with their response and some other news if anyone is interested.
As the email seems to be leading somewhere after all, if anyone wants to drop them a line, please do so.
You may get an instant reply that the mail didn't reach certain groups within the company, but it's sure by now that the overseas team does get the emails.
Also thanks for the Perfection vids Despatche. I'll surely check them out later.
Cheers.

Re: Where the Darius Love at?
I'll be dropping them a line for sure. I love the game on iPad but I'd much rather have traditional controls. I'm likely to buy one of those stretched & curved monitors I posted about for playing the old arcades so a PC release that can maintain the original format would be great.
