So much for freedom...

Ok, I don't mean to start a political flame fest, but don't you think this is just a bit too much? Who watches the ones watching? Isn't curtailing your freedom, in the name of protecting such freedom, a paradox?

This was one of the reasons I also am happy I don't live in Mexico anymore, that Big Brother wouldn't be monitoring my mail and my phone. (Yeah, back then once we got a call from an official from the Telecommunications Office down there demanding to know who called us once a month from a northern state. Gee, I don't know.. something called "Fah-mee-lee"?

It really, really breaks my heart to see so much money and effort to look for threats in here, diverting the attention from the real ones.

And if you are monitoring this, you officials, you can start preparing the concentration camps for foreigners, the way you did with the US-born first and second-gen Japanese back in WW2. GIVE ME FREEDOM (EVEN FROM YOUR SNOOPING) OR GIVE ME DEATH!!!

(Sorry guys, it really, really breaks my heart. bad)

Yes. It's also bullshit. Land of the thief, home of the slave.

The U.S. has always been just as corrupt, if not more so, than mexico. The U.S. gov just hides it better.

Right now Bush is seriously starting to scare me. He's throwing all the checks and balances of our gov out the window as he puts so much power in the executive department. The judicial department has become a joke and the executive department doesn't even fear congress.

A U.S. government that is marching ever more closely toward fascism and islamic fundyism getting ever closer to nuclear technology. These are dangerous times indeed to be an American.

Actually, thanks to Bush these are dangerous times to live on planet Earth. Let's never forget a nuclear strike affects everyone regardless of country borders.

edit: well, not only Bush of course, don't get me wrong. Still he has quite a responsibility.

Our countries forefathers are rolling in their graves as we speak, what they strived so long ago to achieve is being undone in much less time.

Particularly chilling is the time he called the Constitution "Just a Goddamn piece of paper". That goes to show how much regard he has for it.

Specineff, I agree. I'd rather die in "the land of the free" than live in a police state. They don't need to modify the USA Patriot (Uncalledfor Slashing And Paring Away of The Rights of Individuals Over Time) Act; they need to dismantle it.

What's the difference between Bush and Castro? :?

I'd vote for Castro, if they were the only two choices.

Are you kidding? Castro is one of the most total badass characters ever!

You actually get to play as him (2P) in Guevara for famicom. Fight for everlasting peace and the freedom of Cuba from the imperialist dog, Batista!

If Jack Bauer were in a room with Bush, Castro, and Nina Meyers, who would he shoot?

Too late for that  ...except the flames seemed to be aimed at Polititians.
The world would be a better place if there were less shooters and more dot-eaters.

Spec, I love you, but be rational. Rationality is absent from the far left (just about any episode of South Park can prove this true). Concentration camps are not going to happen. (That actually happened under a Democrat president, BTW.) Unless you're receiving phone calls from Afghanistan or someplace full of assholes, there is no reason to get concerned.

And hasn't anyone ever sent packages internationally? It's always been the case that any packages I send or receive with my family in Japan are subject to customs inspection. This pre-dates the current president. Letter correspondence from potentially hostile countries doesn't surprise me.

Who, Bush? Who told you that? Michael Moore?

I undestand where everyone is coming from, and I'm certainly not the person to defend President Bush tooth and nail, but this sort of stuff is nothing new. It's just getting a lot more attention these days.

So when my gf takes a trip to canada next month and we have phonesex, is Bush really going to be listening in? It would freak me out if, in the middle of the whole thing, I heard a texan accent say "could you guys stop for a minute, I need to find an old sock?"

Sorry Greg I just don't share your faith in the unshakable rightousness of our president. I know he's above the court system, doesn't have time for congress, employs a bunch of corrupt cronies, and has our best interests at heart not unlike a lovable big brother; but something about the guy just scares me.
