Detana! Twinbee PCE-Arcade differences

Post by Dylan1CC »

I love the PC Engine port of Detana! Twinbee. Aside from slightly downgraded graphics, are there any other notable differences between the PCE version and the arcade game? Any missing levels or exclusive content, different bosses, ect.? Figured maybe there would be since Gradius and Parodius Da PCE both do.

I'm unable to compare both versions in-depth since I haven't spend that much time with the arcade game, but one thing's for certain: the PCE port is immensely easier than the original, it's not even close. It's kinda like Gokujou Parodius on the SFC which is an ad usum Delphini variation of the arcade game, as well. The enemy aggression is severely toned down and on top of that there are tons of extra lives to be had in the PCE version.

I believe it is also easier, I had no trouble 1CCing it on a cold playthrough one time. That and I believe it is also missing a stage or two as it felt shorter than the arcade version. I can't even get close to a 1CC on the arcade version.

Thanks guys. I heard the PCE rev was missing the final stage from the arcade version? But after watching some longplay footage from both versions on YouTube this doesn't seem to be correct.

Anyways hoping to finally replace my long dead U.S. Duo later this year with a Duo-R so I can play this and the rest of my TG-16/PCE shmup library once again.

Never mind, after taking another look at the videos I figured it out. The PCE version and the arcade game share the same final stage and the same final boss. What the PCE rev is missing from the arcade game is the second to last level which is a sandy brown/gray colored Atlantis'esque themed level with towered cities before the final swirling green cloud stage which eventually leads to the final battle. In the PCE rev after the waterfall cliff stage, the game just goes straight to the final level which begins with the swirling green clouds.

Edit: Here is a screencap I took from the Arcade long play of the stage in question which was not included in the PCE rev:
