Gefen VGA to DVI Scaler Plus questions

Hi all,
I recently purchased for basically peanuts (17 euros) through ebay one of those Gefen VGA to DVI Scaler Plus, the grey version (not the black/blue one). It was almost certainly pulled off a working environment because at the bottom there were hot glue residue.

The seller told me it's in good working order, but he didn't have the PSU for it. Since the auction went so cheap I'm not going to be too concerned if it doesn't work, but I would like to know the specs of the PSU from some of you that maybe already have this piece of hardware

I think it must be something like 5v 2A, but didn't find any certain info online and seller didn't know.

Plus, with the grey unit am I going to obtain the 720x480 from the Dreamcast? I purchased the unit basically just for the DC and the Atomiswave (which is a sort of Naomi/DC and outputs VGA natively)...

yes, but you have to use the auto adjust function to get the clock/phase setting to an otherwise inaccessible value.

And yes, 5V2A for the PSU.

Thanks! Now that I remember I was reading from you way back that you had issues with the grey unit obtaining those 720x480 in the end is just a matter of auto adjustment, glad to hear it!

Just for curiosity, the black/blue unit is instead able to recognize automatically that resolution from a DC? Is this the only differece?

Will try to find something less cheap and better made, but let's say, something like this should be ok-ish, right?

EDIT: actually found TOP MICROSYSTEMS HK-I510-A05 Power Supply used by Gefen. www.Pollin.de have a stock of them at a really great price, hope they send outside Germany

As far as I can tell (or remember) it's also a firmware question, but the majority of sold units should be fine. I think (to remember) that you have to invoke the auto adjustment on all units, some of the later ones just won't get it right then either.

I just bought myself a grey unit as well. I can't find it online but is this firmware upgradeable? I remember reading there were firmware updates for this but at the official site I can't seem to find anything

No, I'm pretty sure it's not firmware upgradable, you are set with the stock one installed
