Been thinking about starting the Fate series. Except uhh... where to start? I know next to pretty much nothing on the series.

Fate is sh!t and I hate it but, the new TV series (Unlimited Blade Works) is the best adaptation of the VN. The old series is completely shit and it's the worst adaptation so far. The movie sucks cause it's ultra condensed. Fate Zero is a prequel of the original story and it's full of spoilers.
IMO, the best choice is to watch the first season of UBW, then wait for the second season (april 2015), and then go for Zero.

Re: Recommended Anime/Manga?
I will also join in on dissing that movie once again.
Talking about ultra condensed adaptations of bad serieses, does anything compare to the zoominess of Demon King Daimao's final episode(s)? That was so boss and over the top. Like 3 or 4 issues worth of manga content would whiz pass in a single spoken line of dialogue every second. "What the fuck is even going on?" said everyone who's seen it.

Japan I'd say :p - I really do hope they will do Diamond Is Unbreakable after this - I love anything with Jap teenage delinquent, rockabilly stylings in it, sosoprano1 wrote:Where can i get coffee flavoured chewing gum?Raytrace wrote:The return of JoJo was great last night. it's probably my favourite JoJos I've read so far (apart from the very first JoJos).
Re: Recommended Anime/Manga?
Finally watched The Wind Rises - I absolutely loved it, the art was incredibly luscious. I'm a sentimental sort and I love aircraft so well I very enjoyed it.
It is by far my favourite Ghibli film I have seen yet (sorry drauch), with Porco Rosso a close second. Then again I'm not usually into 'fantasy' or 'magic' type settings in general so most of the other stuff wouldn't really be my 'thing', though I can accept they are very good and well made etc..

Re: Recommended Anime/Manga?
I suppose I should probably watch Grave Of The Fireflies soon, though I fear it will be too much for me :'(.

It's quite uplifting! The little girl makes rice balls for her older bro. Like any good imouto should!

have this already been linked?

It's pretty great! While the motion feels a bit rough, the frames are well drawn with a really impressive sense of scale and movement

Watched that cool short...some scenes seem like they were filmed in real life and then the animation was superimposed afterwards (perhaps using a GoPro or miniature video camera of sorts for a sense of scale in regards to the background scenery, furniture, assorted props and whatnot). Around these parts in Central California, one would be likely to encounter the garden variety roach (which would be the Oriental or German cockroaches -- those pesky things are crazy fast indeed).Ji-L87 wrote:Sorry, fixednull1024 wrote:that link needs an NSFW warning [it's tasteful, but still -- nudity]Ji-L87 wrote:Haven't checked in to this thread in a while,

Roach Factoid: When a roach is about to "bite the dust", it'll suddenly flip on it's backside and try grasping for something (and sometimes righting itself again only to flip over on it's back again) but to no avail until it dies. Same upsidedown phenomena with spiders as well when they, too, croak.
Earwig Factoid: Most earwigs don't have wings but there's one variety that does...came across one outside one day and surprised to see that it had a pair of wings (albeit small nevertheless) and took off to go elsewhere. Strange but true.....

Re: Recommended Anime/Manga?
A friend of mine told me to watch the English dub of Ghost Stories. It's probably been mentioned before in this thread, but I can't be arsed to check.
I'm dying of laughter. Sure, the jokes can get a bit stupid, but it's overall funny as hell. It's like a full length abridged series.
Apparently, the original script was an unreasonably boring piece of trash, so the dub team just said "fuck it" and did a gag dub.

Many insects and spiders flip on their backside when they die. It's still sort of debatable to why I believe, but it's very interesting. I don't think I could put it eloquently enough without copy/pasting, so if you're interested, there's plenty to read out there.PC Engine Fan X! wrote:Roach Factoid: When a roach is about to "bite the dust", it'll suddenly flip on it's backside and try grasping for something (and sometimes righting itself again only to flip over on it's back again) but to no avail until it dies. Earwigs actually do have small forewings; you can see them on their back, they just rarely use them. Despite them having a negative phototaxis (they don't like light,) I've seen plenty of them at night flying around the sides of buildings when I used to photograph insects.

I'm going on record as being on the Log Horizon train. It tends to be 20 minutes that feels like 15-18 minutes, instead of how most things feel like 1,800 seconds.
Gave Chaos;Head a rewatch recently, and I really have no idea what it's supposed to be about, despite knowing all the minutiae such as the magic swords that create illusions that effect inert matter for some reason. The creepy serial killer is gross and interesting, so why didn't they make that the main thread?

Watched first episode of Future Police Urashiman - I liked it, and the amount of tape delay effects, analogue synth sound and hand drawn wireframe graphics in it pleased me greatly.

Re: Recommended Anime/Manga?
I found out there was a Parasyte anime recently, and I ended up binge watching all the currently released episodes.
I don't really have too much in depth to say about it besides the fact that it's really good.
Also I need to watch those new Jojo episodes sometime.

I just passed episode 25 of Layzner...

Too bad the series pretty much goes to shit with the second season. It's still an entertaining watch though.BryanM wrote:I'm going on record as being on the Log Horizon train. It tends to be 20 minutes that feels like 15-18 minutes, instead of how most things feel like 1,800 seconds.

Don't worry about it. You can travel from the Milky Way to Andromeda and back 1500 times before the sun explodes.

It somewhat horrifies me about how much I care about their equipment upgrades. I guess in some respect that's like how shonens work.ryu wrote:Too bad the series pretty much goes to shit with the second season.
Also perturbed to see that it's in the opposite situation of DxD: they're out of books so, looks like Season 2 might be the end forever. Unless someone from the NHK hunts down the guy, squeezes him, and screams "poop out more books!"...

Re: Recommended Anime/Manga?
Were there even any equipment upgrades in the first season? I don't remember any, and there were just a few in season 2 so far. That's what I like about the series - that it's focused on other aspects instead of the battles one would expect of it.BryanM wrote:It somewhat horrifies me about how much I care about their equipment upgrades.ryu wrote:Too bad the series pretty much goes to shit with the second season.
