Sorry if this is in the wrong place, but I am requesting if anyone knows if it's possible to get those extra ships while playing in the ePSXe emulator.
To recap, you get those ships while holding either triangle, circle or square on controller 2 while controller 1 selects the stages. I used to be able to do this just fine while playing on my physical PS1/PS2 but something about the emulator version is not allowing this to happen. Yes, both pads are configured in the emu.
I'm thinking that the emulator may have slightly different architecture for the pads setup than the native PS1 because another thing that doesn't seem to work is pad vibration. Don't care about that though.
Can anyone share any light on this by any chance? Any help appreciated.

Have you tried mapping keys on the keyboard to those inputs instead?
For that matter, are you using actual controllers or are you using the keyboard? The other thing that pops into my mind is the key input limitation with most keyboards ...

I just tried that, but it still didn't work. Good thinking though.
Yeah I'm using 2 PS2 pads via USB adapters

Did some quick testing with Street Fighter Alpha 3 (only multiplayer game I had handy), and was able to get P1 and P2 inputs working from the same controller. Here's how:
I went into the main ePSXe window (this is the latest 1.9.0)
Config -> Game Pad -> Port 1 -> Pad 1
Set the controller type to "[SCPH-1080] Digital" and mapped my inputs.
Do the same thing for:
Config -> Game Pad -> Port 2 -> Pad 1
I initially tried doing it through the Wizard and it didn't work, so it might be a bug.
Had fun playing Versus Mode controlling both Ryu and Ken at the same time.

RIGHT. I've got it!! Pad no.2, was under Port 1 for some reason, and it was letting me configure the buttons seemingly normally but not recognizing it when I got in game due to that!
This also means 2-player G-Darius is now possible.
Thank you very much sir!
