Love how they devised a course for beginners without labeling it as "easy", and how fun that beginners course is. Yes, the presentation is a bit generic, but enjoyable all the same. If it was more addictive, I'd seriously consider it for my top 25.

Thought I'd bump this thread with something I discovered that might actually explain the title of Battle Bakraid.

If you randomly google around for "Bakraid" and go past the first couple of pages you'll eventually stumble on results for something called Bakr-id or Bakra-Eid, a muslim festival involving animal sacrifice.
"(Bakr-Id), which is also known as Eid al-Adha or Id-ul-Adha, is a festival that many Muslims celebrate with special prayers, greetings and gifts. It is a gazetted holiday in India and is also referred to as the festival of sacrifice."
You would think this is unrelated except every single selectable ship in the game is named after an animal of some kind, and so are the bosses, and what do you do in this game more than any other Raizing game if not "sacrifice" ships over and over?

Only took what, 15 years? I just hope this make it that much harder to call the game generic.

It's funny, I never had an appreciation of Garegga until I downloaded MAME and played the rest of Raizing's output. Somehow, seeing it in the context of the bigger picture, I finally get it, and can't understand what it was I was missing before.

Bakraid is my current favorite though, and the only one I'm playing semi-seriously. Other than the basic concept of medalling, the scoring is completely beyond me, and probably never won't be. Playing for survival though, the game seems very fair, and strikes me as the best entrypoint in the company's catalog. At least, it's the first one that really got it's hooks in me (other than Souky, but Souky is kind of an outlier; to me, it feels like the work of a different company entirely).

The concept's actually not too hard to grasp (execution, of course, is another matter) - basically, when you kill medium/large targets in fairly rapid succession (chaining, essentially, though it doesn't apply to popcorns here), their value is multiplied (the second one is x2, the third is x4, etc., up to x64 IIRC). If you only use your regular guns there are only a handful of limited spots where you can do much of anything with this, but there are two ways to temporarily freeze the chain timer and put together longer strings of kills: 1) Bombing, and 2) Dying. Getting to the point where you can rack up a load of lives in one fell swoop, lose them all and rack them back up again is obviously not an overnight thing, but you can ease yourself into it by starting by sacrificing a bomb or two at certain spots, and then move up to stricter stuff when you get comfortable.

As always, if I screwed up something anywhere above somebody please correct me.

Thanks, that's definitely something I'll experiment with. I'm still trying to get the 1CC at this point, and I'm kind of torn between an impulse to collect medals simply because it's fun to do so, versus dodging them to avoid rank increase, focusing instead on grazing and basic survival. Would you say the surplus of lives that come from playing for score is an easier method for achieving a 1CC, or should I stick with survival?

Stick with survival. Once you go scoring, you don't go back.

Yeah, the game's not too hard to 1CC if you just play "normally," which keeps the rank pretty low.

Bakraid is infinitely better than Garegga, which is mediocre to begin with. Compared to Bakraid, Garegga is a complete joke

Happy birthday, Bakraid.
Bakraid is a great game that deserves more attention; it just gets overshadowed because Garegga is much, much better.

Wow, the way you are playing is really different to how I'm playing the game, this seems more freestyle than following set routes.

Yeah, it ends up costing a lot of score since there's not that much wiggle room, but then if I get bored I just stop playing so it's better this way.

Yes you should, highly underplayed game.

Thanks! I hope to top this someday, the amount of optimization that can be done with those Cloud bosses is incredible.

Me love Battle Bakraid
I only wished that the stages were a bit longer (before the boss), that's all!
