Zuntata Live Concerts (and maybe more)

Post by Dragon God »

Note : I got Malc's approval to post this. Wanted to make sure it was ok before posting it.

I think in every shmupper's game library must be several Taito titles. The music is indeed strange but always fits in with the in-game context. Most of you likely own several Zuntata Soundtrack CDs, but I wonder if any here saw the Live Performances ?

By this, I do mean the actual Zuntata members playing their music live. These performances are actually available on VHS, which might pop in at Yahoo Japan auctions ( http://auctions.yahoo.co.jp ?) once in a while at fairly cheap prices (1000 ~ 2000 JPY = 20 ~ 30 $ USD). While I wouldn't expect everyone to be able to deal at YJA, a taste of the wonderful world of Live Video Game Music Concerts can't hurt.

So I present to you all this bittorent site that has several VGM Concerts available such as Zuntata, Sega SST, Black Mages, etc...

Zuntata Live '97 ~Cinetique Rave~ features several songs from Raystorm, Rayforce, Darius Gaiden, G-Darius, Fighter's Impact, Metal Black and more !! Also seeing Tamayo sing Ceramic Heart in French makes the whole concert worth getting.

Zuntata Live '98 ~Guten Talk~ features some songs on Cinetique Rave, but it also has more exclusive stuff, like Grid Seeker, Puzzle Bobble, Stoic Romance and more !! Best thing is the apperance of Yack, Karu and Norihiro Furukawa halfway through.

ZTT 97 is 800 MBs while ZTT 98 is 850 MBs.

Enjoy !!

P.S. : If curiosity bites you, look up the Koji Hayama ~Kinzoku~ Video(features crazy Cho Aniki songs) (850 MBs) too !! You won't find a more energetic performance than this.

Wow, great find! I'm downloading the '98 show right now. About that Katamari Damacy file, is that a concert or just the OST? I'd LOVE to see some of those tracks live.

EDIT: finished the Zuntata concert downloading. I love you, Tamayo Kawamoto.

In-Out is quite an interesting track. Though with a name like that, it's not totally unexpected, orgasms are not exactly common instrumentation for video game music.

Edit again: the lead guitarist is quite good indeed. I haven't heard of either of the soundtracks he's given credit for, though.

Edit again: OMG, they cover PUZZLE BOBBLE! It never even occurred to me that Zuntata wrote that, I'm always thinking of stuff like Darius and Raystorm. Still a nice thing to have. The guitar/keyboard hybrid is funny.

To my knowledge, Zuntata did and still do the music for all Taito (internal, but in some cases also outsourced) games: if i remember well, only the puzzle game with all Taito characters (can't recall the name) hasn't Zuntata music.
Personally, i prefer Guten Talk, l"live to the moon" has a terrific intro, i like it better than the original version
"The only desire the Culture could not satisfy from within itself was one common to both the descendants of its original human stock and the machines [...]: the urge not to feel useless."

I.M. Banks, "Consider Phlebas" (1988: 43).
