Now that we have a thread on PS3 news, I thought I'd bring up some news (or perhaps it's all rumors) on the Nintendo Revolution. Last year, I heard or read all of the following about the Revolution:
-That it will not feature downloads of import NES, SNES, or N64 games
-That Nintendo purchased at least some of the Sega Genesis's game library from Sega, and that these games will be available for download
-That ALL Cube controllers will be compatible with the Revolution
-That ALL Cube games will be compatible with the Revolution
As far as the supposed lack of import downloads, this comes from www.gonintendo.com -but perhaps most of the rest what I've posted has originally come from them too, so I am wondering how reliable they are as a source of information on the Revolution.
In any case, is there ANY way of knowing whether any of the aforementioned statements about the Revolution are true or not?
Revolution News or Rumors?...

Oh come on, there's got to be a way of finding out whether or not at least some of these statements are true before E3! For one thing, no one has yet commented on the reliability of gonintendo.com .
Here's some interesting news from IGN:

Oh man, I hope Nintendo doesn't go the way of VR arcade games!

Re: Revolution News or Rumors?...
As for 1, it is hard to see why this issue would be settled at this point. In any case the powers that be could change their minds about this at some future point, since the hardware will be the same in either case.dave4shmups wrote: 1. As for 2, I'm not sure which controllers are at issue. I've read that the standard issue controller will be compatible. But if the standard one is compatible, then why wouldn't others? Won't it be just like PS1 and PS2? All of my PS1 controllers work on my PS2. The one exception: I'm sure that the Logitech force feedback steering wheel for Gamecube will not be supported: even on the Gamecube very few games have supported the force feedback function.
As for 3, they can say this now, but we all know that this didn't quite come true for the PS2: some PS1 games just don't play right on the PS2. (In a way I don't care at all about backward compatibility for Cube games, since I don't plan on selling my Cube-- even if I hardly play it anymore.)

My .50 $
2 Yes, if there are no changes (like perhaps one extra button, that extra button can't be used with the GC controller)
3 Yes but you will need to buy an add on for the Revolution like the SUPER gameboy adapter for the SNES
guestimating
1 Will be available ONLY in Japan with a special service that you have to subscribe to.dave4shmups wrote: 1. That it will not feature downloads of import NES, SNES, or N64 games

Some new stuff to chew on regarding the "Virtual Console":
http://www.classicgamer.com/revolution.htm
This apparently comes from a Nintendo marketing survey, and shows screens (I'm guessing mockups, not actual screens) and a potential list of titles that might show up on the download service. Apparently the survey also discusses pricing models (including rentals and a subscription based service.
