I sent a similar message directly and privatelyto fagins on Youtube but I feel it might be worth posting here as it could be helpful for others after all. I'm in a position to get effectively my pick of a range of PVMs or BVMs for between €100 and €250 so I'm just wondering what you guys think would be best. While I would like an XM-29 to be in the mix, and will grab it immediately should it be offered, I dont think there is one.
My known choices are BVM-20E1E, PVM-20L4 and PVM-2030QM. If I see an L5, I'd likely very much consider that for the 480P goodness - is there much of a difference between the 20L5 and 20E1E for 240P and 480i? Is it a big enough difference to forget about the 480P?
Additionally, cost is a factor so I would like just a native Scart socket if there is one on any of them (other than the 2030QM which I know has one). There's no difference in quality between straight Scart into a Scart socket versus Scart to BNC, is there? I would assume not since Scart RGB is the source anyway).
I will also be keeping my N64 on SVideo as it seems like a lot of effort/expense for only a slight improvement (based on using my current, consumer CRT usage anyway). Would this be a wise policy for the jump up to a pro monitor?
For full disclosure, I should confess that I am the average user that knows the difference between a good consumer set and a bad one but I would not have the same eye for detail you guys likely have so based on the above wants - One S-Video (tbc based on your feedback), ideally 31KHz/480P VGA/Component support and native Scart socket preferred (though not utterly essential) - which monitor would be the best match (assuming I see it)?
Or do you have a few model numbers it might be worth keeping an eye on which are closer to my needs than the ones listed above?
Or alternatively, which of the three above (known) model numbers would YOU opt for if you were in my shoes?
2030QM is €100, L4 is €150 and BVM is €250 - those are the prices I know for sure and does not include whatever scart to BNC/DSub cables I might need. Apologies for the loaded questions - any help you can offer would be greatly appreciated
Finally, and as the subject suggests, would it be worth making some sort of a "monitor master list" showing specs, inputs, etc... (with ratings)? I didn't see one in the ode to... topic and there is a tiny one on Assembler for PVMs but it is pretty sparsely populated. I figure that since a number of folks here have monitors, it would be a good place to host such a master list. Thoughts?
