Last call for purchasing After Burner Climax (360/PS3)
Last call for purchasing After Burner Climax (360/PS3)
It's being removed from both services on December 24 due to one of Sega's licenses with Northrop Grumman or Boeing for use of their fighter jets expiring. If you haven't bought it yet, now's the time.
Sadly, this is a repeat of how OutRun Online Arcade was taken down from XBLA when Sega's hold on the Ferrari license expired. Only this time, there's no physical copies to fall back on.

It's been a while since I tried the demo. Is it possible to use the 360 flight stick/throttle with this?
Re: Last call for purchasing After Burner Climax (360/PS3)
There are no physical copies of Outrun Online Arcade either. It is mostly based on Outrun 2006: Coast 2 Coast which did see a physical release on many systems, but it's not exactly the same thing.Pretas wrote:Sadly, this is a repeat of how OutRun Online Arcade was taken down from XBLA when Sega's hold on the Ferrari license expired. No matter how good a game is, somebody will always hate it. No matter how bad a game is, somebody will always love it.

This is a pretty damn good game, if you have any interest in After Burner don't miss this. Bought it years ago and loved it.

Well there's always the Lindbergh Arcade version?Pretas wrote:Only this time, there's no physical copies to fall back on.

If you "own" this game and cock up your DL, is it possible to redownload it after the deadline?

Seconding this. Also the scoring system is eerily similar to the Donpachi series, you have enemy chaining and hypers & the stages are designed around it.Ruldra wrote:This is a pretty damn good game, if you have any interest in After Burner don't miss this. Bought it years ago and loved it.

Already been removed from the 360 stores it seems, checking against marketplace.xbox.com.
I've noticed there's been a bit of activity on MAME's lindbergh.c lately and there was also talk of an "emulator" (more like the Type X I/O wrappers) for Linux whose working components are being kept behind closed doors. Perhaps in the distant future we'll see it running on home PCs in some form, albeit pirated/altered.

I think purchasing a Lindbergh arcade machine is more convenient than looking through the PSN download list.Pretas wrote:Yes, look at your download list.GaijinPunch wrote:If you "own" this game and cock up your DL, is it possible to redownload it after the deadline?

Yes, it's been removed ahead of schedule from both services. Only way to get it now is to gameshare with an account that owns it.BPzeBanshee wrote:Already been removed from the 360 stores it seems, checking against marketplace.xbox.com.![]()

Same with the 360. ABC came out in 2010. Scrolling through four years of downloads without a reference is oh so fun.ZellSF wrote:I think purchasing a Lindbergh arcade machine is more convenient than looking through the PSN download list.Pretas wrote:Yes, look at your download list.GaijinPunch wrote:If you "own" this game and cock up your DL, is it possible to redownload it after the deadline?

I got this back when it was on sale. Good stuff. I hope this doesn't effect the US release of 3D After Burner II.
Re: Last call for purchasing After Burner Climax (360/PS3)
It won't, because only Climax used officially licensed fighter jet designs.BrianC wrote:I got this back when it was on sale. Good stuff. I hope this doesn't effect the US release of 3D After Burner II.

According to the "3D After Burner II (3DS eShop) Japanese eShop Trailer":

However there doesn't seem to be anything Boeing (McDonnell Douglas, North American Aviation) related.Produced under license from Northrop Grumman Systems Corporation.
F-14D Tomcat is a trademark of Northrop Grumman Corporation.

Holy shit! I'm glad I downloaded it recently.
I'm not that into it, but I'm glad I at least have the option to play it.
Digital era....blah.

Both the Super Hornet and Strike Eagle jets in Climax are Boeing trademarked.

Speaking of ABII, the 3DS version is slated to come to the US/EU next week.

tks for the notice

And I lost the chance to get AB Climax on XBLA

Re: Last call for purchasing After Burner Climax (360/PS3)
I might have gotten ABC at some point but not anymore, this really sucks about the licensing, is it still a licensing issue if you don't namedrop the plane everywhere or use it in the marketing too much? I can't help the feeling that this could have been avoided. It shouldn't be such a pain in the ass to feature an airplane in your game, like I don't think it's a problem if it shows up as background art somewhere, so why not be able to have it as a player sprite as long as you're not making and marketing "F-14 Pilot Simulator".
