of all the things capcom is offering with this puppy, it's the price point that sells me more than anything.
i am SOOOO all over this one.

Edit: I wonder if the new 'very hard' mode will be more difficult than DMD mode or under it but harder than 'hard' mode (if that makes sense)? I'm kind of hoping that it will be more difficult because the DMD mode was kind of weak in DMC3 (compared to DMD mode in the original).
Hopefully they tightened up Virgil's controls and movement because he wasn't that great during the one battle you could play as him in vanilla DMC3. Though I'm sure they will as I doubt much thought went into polishing him for that one fight.
Also I hope that save files will carry over as I don't really want to (nor do I have the time anymore) to beat DMD mode again.

Yeah, but at least Devil May Cry is actually good.
Be attitude for gains:

3) Be praying...
And a shameless plug for the stuff I'm selling on eBay, if you're into that sort of thing.

Expound, please; to be honest I can't believe I still haven't played DMC3 and haven't kept up with any review of it, so I'm interested in what probs you had with the continues.E. Well, look, what puts a bee in my bonnet about DMC3 is the fact that you hack and hack and shoot and hack thru all these repetitive enemies in these small are(n)as, get to the boss, get your ass kicked all over the place, then have to trudge thru all that repetitive nonsense again.UnscathedFlyingObject wrote:Boys, I think we're playing too many Shmups. Continues in many other games mean level retries.
Basically, this isn't fun to me. I end up spending all this time replaying old levels just to build up orbs so I can power up and stand a chance against a boss. It's like level grinding in an RPG, except this isn't an RPG. Hell, the way DMC3 plays kind of reminds me of what Working Designs did with Silhouette Mirage; beat the snot out of enemies for money so you can buy more powerful weapons, essentially turning a fast paced action game into a slow, methodical, and monotonous affair.

There are three different versions of the continue system, though - NTSC-J, NTSC-US and PAL versions were all different from each other. The PAL one is slightly less annoying than the NTSC-US version, but it's still a bit painful. If the new version has the JPN system as one the choices, great. If it's the US and Euro versions, bah.
UFO> Moogs is on the money. It's not just that you have to go through all the weaker enemies again when you continue - the biggest ballache is that you also have to trudge through all the bloody puzzles again. That can take a relatively hefty amount of time on later levels. There's absolutely no point in using a continue, because it has *exactly* the same effect as simply turning the PS2 on and off again - ridiculous when continues cost you currency.
In comparison, the JPN version is supposed to be a joy to play. Lose a battle against a boss, jump straight back in at the start of the battle against it and use your new-found knowledge to take it down. DMC3 is all about the bosses and leaning how to make fools of them, which is why the continue systems in the western versions are so stupid. It's not about making the game any easier, just making it less irritating - use of continues screws your ranking up, after all, so you've still got to one-life each level if you want to get a saved game status screen that shows anything approaching mastery of the game.
I found it annoying enough in PAL that I eventually gave the game up in total frustration, quite some way in, and have been seriously considering getting a copy of the JPN version. A great game, but hampered. I presume it's because the way you unlock the Easy setting means that Capcom couldn't do their usual trick of just renaming Normal as Easy and Hard as Normal when it came to increasing the difficulty in the US & UK versions, but they didn't put anywhere near enough thought into the impact it'd have.

I got the Japanese version because of the difficulty thing, but that was hard enough as it was!

http://ps2.ign.com/articles/680/680872p1.html "The new optional Gold Orb continue system also allows for immediate respawns at point of death, assuming you have the orbs to handle it. So no more total restarts, which is real good." Sounds like the continue problem has ben fixed somewhat. Joy!

pardon me for digging up an old thread, but I thought this was interesting.
this site has a replay of an ALL SS RANK clear on Dante Must Die difficulty, with no Devil Trigger used (except mission 12, of course).
scroll down the page to the red-colored sections:
DMC movie section
[20 videos for the replay, total ~908 MB]
btw, if you want to save that replay to your drive, here is the direct URL:
(http) wai2.atnifty.com/mo-vies/devil3/ai-dmd
^finish the address with: 01.wmv, 02.wmv, etc. all the way up to 20.wmv
because the site's bandwidth is limited, you can only download one movie at a time.

DMC goes down as the most beautiful, crafted game that I completely hated.
GT3 follows it at no2.
Unlimited ammo is a no no, back tracking is a big no no... Sore thumbs are a big no no, camera angles that suck are a big no no.
So I couldnt get into it as hard as I tried.

This industry has become 2 dimensional as it transcended into a 3D world.
