UFO Robo Dangar owners?
Question for anyone with a UFO Robo Dangar PCB.
When you start the game 2 turrets and a stone block are the first things you'll see, shoot them and fly over the top of the left hand crater - does the crater priority mess up and jump on top of the player sprite?
I think answers from people with Japanese Nichibutsu or licensed or bootlegs would be useful. I bought a Tecfri one from someone in Italy and it has this fault, but I'm not sure if it's just a game/hardware bug or an actual fault. Seller is not being very friendly now...

Re: UFO Robo Dangar owners?
I used to play this particular shmup at the local Modesto, CA based Cals-R-Cade arcade joint back in 1987-1988...I never did see the aforementioned sprite corruption when playing it (although it was a USA region PCB conversion kit, it did get a proper American arcade distribution back in the day -- consisted of a full-sized backlit marquee, all the necessary artwork + instruction manual paperwork to get an existing upright Dynamo cab all decked out to accommodate such an UFO Robo Dangar Jamma PCB setup). It was common back in those days for arcade operators/owners to chuck/trash whatever arcade paperworks and leftover materials (factory shipping box included) associated with such conversion kits after said arcade cabinet conversion was finished (or had run it's course in the arcades after a profitable / or not so profitable run). Nowadays, you'd be lucky enough to just even find a barebones UFO Robo Dangar PCB all by it's lonesome self these days.
I'm pretty sure that shmup PCB collector, Dave K., has this particular PCB in his arcade PCB stash. Perhaps, he could shed more light into this UFO Robo Dangar PCB sprite issue at hand.

Re: UFO Robo Dangar owners?
I've been told that the bootlegs do this (even though it doesn't happen in MAME), they sound like the Tecfri type in design (some customs are TTL + PAL). It's possible the bootleg is derived from the Tecfri one, or maybe even the other way around given that someone has gone to great lengths to remove the Tecfri logos from this PCB, actually shaving them off the PCB surface.

UFO Robo Dangar is Malc's favorite game, if you happen to still be in contact with him.

Tested your sprite issue with this UFO Robo Dangar PCB, but I was unable to recreate this issue (before or after being hit).

If you don't mind, do you have a picture of this UFO Robo Dangar Tecfri PCB ?

Re: UFO Robo Dangar owners?

There were numerous Tecfri logos on it one some point but someone has left the Nichibutsu ones on, and scratched the Tecfri ones off.

Why did they even bother to mark a "Nichibutsu" (bad) label on their PCB ?

Because it was licensed from Nichibutsu. They licensed a lot of things:ifog wrote:Why did they even bother to mark a "Nichibutsu" (bad) label on their PCB ?
Ninja Emaki - note Nichi/Tecfri logos are all intact on this, but on the lower board only.

Gaplus

Choplifter

I don't have a photo but I also have a Tecfri Shoot Out, covered with Data East custom parts too.

The overseas and Japanese Dangar PCBs are different. Mine is in storage at the moment so can't get to it.

Re: UFO Robo Dangar owners?
Terra cresta Tecfri pcb does the same, some sprites like turrets are on top and not behind when ship sprite it goes through.
I have to try interchanging With Dangar CPU Roms because i have Dangar Bootleg and Original.
Also i dont know if pal (82s129.2d) /* sprite lookup table */) can reproduce this isue, and maybe this pal is diferent for both pcb, Mame uses the same pal for both games, maybe that's why mame doesn't repoduce this sprite bug.
but i dont know if sprite lookup table its related whit this bug (sprites top/behind things).
(Sorry i tested my Dangar Boot pcb and its ok so i cant do any test.)
