I'm wanting to passthrough the audio from my retro consoles directly to my stereo speakers without going through my XRGB Mini and having it integrated into the HDMI signal. However, my RGB (JP21) cables don't allow me to easily do this, as there's no easy way to separate out the audio. I've found very little information on this online, and the only cable I've ever seen to do the trick (besides certain SCART switches) is a cable from retro_console_accessories on Ebay that routes the audio to two RCA jacks instead of inside the SCART pinout. This cable was designed with RGB-YUV trancoders in mind, but it could also serve as a solution, though it would mean replacing all my cables, which would be expensive.
Is this the best option available? I think the ideal solution would be to have an adapter that had a female JP21 or SCART end to plug your cable into, and have a male end with two RCA connectors for audio. That way you could use it, or not. Does anything like that exist?
Thanks so much for the help in advance.

You can add rca jacks to the scart plug on your xrgb mini adapter cable. you could replace these with the existing wires going to the xrgb mini's din plug or just solder them on also so you could use either and just turn down the volume on the mini. If you dont think you can do this yourself, i bet retro_console_accessories would make one for you.
Just get a cable like this one, cut off the 3.5mm jack, and integrate it into the adapter:

or use a long cable with male rcas
its basically the same concept as this cable that is made for pvms:

The Kind if Scart cable you'd need can be easily made, however it will likely have to be a custom job.
Personally I'd recommend just getting an HDMI audio extractor, you won't have to deal with any modding and you can just leave it in your chain and just swap audio inputs when you need too.

Good idea, thanks for the suggestion. My one question is, what would be the best area/technique to cut into the JP21 to 8 mini din cable? I once tried to unscrew the JP21 connector, but couldn't seem to get it to unscrew. Is there something I'm missing?mickcris wrote:You can add rca jacks to the scart plug on your xrgb mini adapter cable. you could replace these with the existing wires going to the xrgb mini's din plug or just solder them on also so you could use either and just turn down the volume on the mini. I had thought about this, though my main reasoning is that I want to avoid an unnecessary analog to digital and then digital to analog conversion, especially given the XRGB line is not really known for audio, just video, so they probably didn't spend that much money on the ADC, and the DAC in a TV is probably worse, or the DAC in a generic audio extractor. (I don't see much point in spending a lot of money on one) Thanks for the suggestion, though!mattbox wrote:Personally I'd recommend just getting an HDMI audio extractor, you won't have to deal with any modding and you can just leave it in your chain and just swap audio inputs when you need too.

You don't need to cut into anything. it will unscrew, just may have to do it with a bit more force. I assume you are using the one that came with the mini? If you bought it after, i guess there is a chance the seller glued it on or something, but i've never heard of that happening before. Then after you unscrew it, pry the connector apart.6arm79 wrote:Good idea, thanks for the suggestion. Re: Audio Passthrough setup for XRGB Mini
I will try again when I get the chance. So should I just run the cabling in between the JP21 connector and the screwy bit? Meaning that it wouldn't be screwed back in completely? Thanks!mickcris wrote:You don't need to cut into anything. it will unscrew, just may have to do it with a bit more force. I assume you are using the one that came with the mini? Re: Audio Passthrough setup for XRGB Mini
Run it out next to the other cable. you should still be able to screw it back on. you just have to make sure you run it throgh the nut before you solder it as the rca jacks probably wont fit through with the other cable being there already.6arm79 wrote:I will try again when I get the chance. the bnc/scart cable that i linked above is done the same way. Its a bit hard to see, but there are 2 cables (beige and black) coming out of the connector.
