I'm surprised no one is talking about smash bros!

Loving it and I haven't touched any of my other Wii U games since I got Smash....

Yeah, it was a cool game.

As for Smash...I keep seeing an ad for it on the shop that says "the best game on the Wii U!". With Bayonetta 2 out, I find that hard to believe.

But I've never played almost any Smash Brothers games at all, so I'm no expert.

Two totally different games... I've never played Bayonetta even though I own it for my PS3... but after playing the demo on the Wii U I can understand why people love it so much.

Smash Bros is one of those games that brings back memories of the Nintendo 64 days of getting together and just having hours fun playing with friends. Its one of those games that you buy a Nintendo Console for :)

Ok, so I am baffled by this issue I am having. I did the Wii-Wii U transfer last night and at some point the wiimote pointer only shows up on the Wii U when the Wii is on. This is when my sensor bar is plugged into the Wii U. I turn the Wii off and it responds to button inputs but the pointer is not present. I have tried re-synching it up to the Wii U again, no dice. The camera on the gamepad at one point picked up the wiimote so the cursor showed up there and I could use that as a screen, but ... yikes. I think my console is haunted.

I'm liking Smash Bros quite a bit too. Not too big on the board game mode, but event mode is back and Special Orders is good stuff. I like how classic is different from the 3DS version.

I got a WiiU earlier this month and I now have the essential games:
Bayonetta 2
Mario Kart 8
Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate
New Super Mario Bros. U
Nintendo Land
Pikmin 3
Super Mario 3D World
Super Smash Bros. for WiiU

I must say the console is really great so far. 8)

Pretty impressed with the 1st DLC set for Mario Kart 8. The tracks are very well laid out, music is good, and Link is a boost monster!

Yeah. Never I would have thought I would play as Link riding a Mercedes in Mute City in a Mario Kart game.

Hi everyone,

I'm really itching to buy this console.

I have questions:

1) Can I play Gamecube Games on the Wii U? I can with my current Wii.
2) Do I get a full physical sealed copy of Mario Kart 8 when I buy the Mario Kart 8 Bundle?
3) How long can you play with the pad controller until it needs to be recharged?
4) I forget to charge all my controllers. Am I able to play with "wires"? How long are they?
5) Can I use all my bought Wii Virtual Console games (mostly old NES/SNES games) on the Wii U?
6) Is the pro pad any good? (I suppose so since it looks like a XBOX360 controller and I like these.)

Thanks in advance :D

Have a nice day

1. No
2. Yes but the other game that comes with it is not sealed
3. Don't know mine is always charging
4. You can play with wires they are standard usb to I believe mini usb wires? (Don't know what type of wires but they are standard similar to ps3 wires.
5. I believe there is a transfer option check up on that on Nintendo website. It transferred my Save files over from my Wii to my Wii U. Once transferred it gets deleted off the Wii
6. The Pro is great should have about 80 hours of battery life for it! I really like the controller but for Smash 4 I'm not feeling the 2nd analog stick on top instead of on the bottom. Other than that you should pick it up.

Liking the fact that you actually care whether it's sealed or not.

There is an unofficial softmod/homebrew that lets you do this. Of course, you'll probably void your warranty by doing so.
ancestral-knowledge wrote:How long can you play with the pad controller until it needs to be recharged?
It lasts from 1.5 to 2 hours. Not that great TBH. But you can keep it plugged in while you play.

I don't really care but I remember that sometimes the games in bundles only get preinstalled on the hard disk. I just wanted to know if Nintendo really puts a real physical copy of their game in the box or not.

I'm the same way... I skipped out on the Wind Waker Bundle after I realized it was digital only. Guess you worded it incorrectly. You wanted to know if the game came with a hard copy of it instead of a digital code right.

I think it's been said before, but there's a high capacity battery for the Wii U controller that's available directly thru Nintendo. It's great.

Is Pikmin 3 worth my time if I spent about an hour with the original game and got nothing out of it? I want more unique stuff to play on the system but I just don't know if that's Pikmin 3 or not, for me personally.

If you got nothing out of part 1, probably not. The games are all very similar.

So as posted in the recent purchases thread, I have a Wii U as of three days ago.

I haven't played as much as I normally would have an entirely new console with a game I've been super hyped about (Bayonetta 2) since AGDQ is going on, but I do like it. I also got Smash Bros, and with the console (bought used) I also got Mario Kart 8, Wind Waker HD, Zombi U and Nintendoland. I don't really care about the latter three there (though Nintendoland looks like it might be simple multiplayer fun).

I have to say, I do like the controller. With the system I also got a Pro Controller, but I keep finnding the face buttons more awkward to reach on that one - I don't know who ever thought it was a good idea to place the sticks like that.

Bayonetta 2 is fantastic. I did get the edition with the original game as well even though I already have in on X360 and don't currently have any real reason to play it through again, but if I ever do it's definitely that version I'm going to play.

NNID is same as forum name if anyone wants to be my Wii U friend.

Considering system transfering from my Wii and keep that primarily for GC and homebrew, but I'm not sure. I think I liked using the Hori GC pad for Kirby 64 on VC. And someone on SA said a transfer might choke on the one pirated Wiiware game I have on there (which, I stress, I only pirated because it's only on the JP shop channel). So I might need to fuck with that some more if I decide to do that.

Anyone here heard of or know anything about Rodea the Sky Soldier? I just found out about it today. Apparently it also just came out today in Japan today. (Western Release set for September 22 this year)

It looks like a mix of NiGHTs and Sonic Adventure (Yuji Naka's behind this). I guess you lock on to enemies with either the stylus or WiiMote pointer and then start flying towards them, or go full-on Homing Attack. There's a limit to how long you can be in the air, but the idea seems to be to chain as much stuff as possible before landing. (There's also automated SO MANY FASTS sequences with lots of boost pads lol)

I dunno, it looks kinda fun, but also looks like it'd get old fast. I'll probably end up checking it out anyways. (after a hefty price drop, that is)

If you wait to buy Rodea the Sky Soldier, you're missing out on an entirely different game. First print Wii U copies include the previously canceled Wii version on a separate disc, which was already complete when its original publisher bailed on it years ago. This will also apply to the US release.

Disappointing thing about the Wii U version is that 3DS was the lead platform, so the graphics and controls aren't really up to console standards. The Wii version may actually end up being the better game.

I was about to be all "whinge whinge I alreddy spent moneys on vidjyagaems I cant afford no pre-order" and then I realized you're not charged for pre-orders until it actually comes out, so... PRE-ORDERS AWAY! The Sonic/NiGHTs fanboy in me isn't letting this one go!

Really wish I owned a Wii U for Affordable Space Adventures. Looks to be quite the game that Nintendo promised us at launch. Using the tools the Wii U gives you. The trailer looks nice and its out on the 9th. Nifflas is one of the persons behind this title, so it also lends itself to being somewhat atmospheric along with having a good sense of humor. At least in the launch trailer.

I love my Wii U, and am glad to see some love for it here as well. My wife bought mine as a gift 2 Christmases ago, and we got the NSMBU/NSLU bundle, which is awesome. It actually came with both games on a physical disc with box & artwork. So far, I own the following games:
  • New Super Mario Bros U
    New Super Luigi U
    ZombiU
Tekken Tag Tournament 2: Wii U Edition
    Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor's Edge
    The Wonderful 101
    Mario Kart 8
Mario & Sonic at the Sochi Winter Olympics (bundle with the blue Wiimote)
    Lego Marvel Superheroes
    Lego Batman 3: Beyond Gotham
    Lego The Movie
    Bayonetta 2
The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker HD (physical release version)
    Batman Arkham City: Armored Edition
    Injustice: Gods Among Us
    Shovel Knight
I played the crap out of Bayonetta and Bayonetta 2 - absolutely fantastic games, though some sections were super hard. The original Bayonetta wasn't very forgiving in terms of the timing of Witch Time, and sadly, the Wii U port carries that over. Bayonetta 2 eases up on that slightly, so it makes the execution a bit more forgiving. I also think it's a better game overall, though I slightly prefer the soundtrack to the first game, if only by a hair. ZombiU doesn't get much love, but I think it's an awesome game, and I like the idea behind the whole, when you die, your character becomes a zombie, and you then control a different person who has to carry on the mission, and you can encounter your previous character in zombie form, kill them, and get your stuff back. And The Wonderful 101 is one of the most profound gaming experiences I've had in years. Totally fun, and at times while playing it, I felt like a kid again. It can be frustrating at times, especially during the challenge sections where you face off against the alien prince's army, but it's a marvelous experience that no Wii U owner who appreciates games with reasonable difficulty should miss out on. One of those underrated gems. I haven't played Wind Waker yet, because I've never been a Zelda guy, but I look forward to digging into that one at some point. I'm a sucker for the Lego games, because they're just dumb fun. And I had lots of fun with NSMBU.

I'll say about MK8, I played it a bunch when I first got it, because I picked it up just before a bachelor party, so we all spent several hours digging into it that night. Since then, it kind of languished on the shelf and didn't get much attention. A few weeks ago, my wife and I took in a foster kid to do respite care for a couple weekends, and that's all he wanted to do was play Mario Kart, so we popped that in, and unlocked all the tracks I hadn't unlocked, most of the non-DLC characters, and most of the additional car options. I snagged the free DLC for kicks, and am considering buying the additional DLC, even though I am not a DLC kind of person. Still, it's a fun enough game that I can see myself going back to it again and again. I'll also say that if you're not opposed to digital-only releases, Shovel Knight is a MUST HAVE if you are into old-school action platformers. Another truly great game that I had loads of fun with. My wife had to work a double-shift on New Year's Day, so I bought it that morning, and spent nearly the entire day playing through the whole thing. Fantastic game.

I'll echo the sentiments on the Pro controller as well - it's a really solid controller, and I quite like using it to play stuff like MK8 or especially Injustice. That was another game we spent WAY too much time on at the bachelor party, because it was a room mostly full of DC nerds (excluding myself), and everyone was geeking out about how cool the character designs were, the move sets, the interactive environment, etc. That game is a good time, and though I know the PS3 and XB360 later release had more characters, etc. the Wii U version is worth owning if you don't have the other consoles, or you just want a good fighting game experience on the console.

I also bought The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past on the Wii U VC, and I like that experience as well. It has an emulator-like Save State feature, though it's only a single slot, and for any VC games that were natively released on the Wii U, you can play them on the Game Pad, which is great. I found myself doing that quite a bit with LoZ, because my wife wanted to watch TV, and I could do that at the same time. I plan on getting Earthbound at some point as well.
