Finally, here's a couple. Me playing Futari at Stunfest, slightly nervously as I'm sat next to SOF-WTN, who's playing DDP.



And me with my enormous arm on the beach just about the time I moved into my new seaside home this year (I'm actually holding a bit of Eastbourne pier in the picture. It burned down a few miles down the coast a couple of days before, and the day of this photograph hundreds of bits (mostly much smaller) of burned wood washed up on the beach. Sort of relevant here, in that the arcade on Eastbourne pier was, in the later eighties and through to the mid 90s, the place where I fell for arcade games. I spent the day of this photo on the beach, and was half hoping to find a burnt old CP as a souvenir.

It was. The fire actually started in the arcade. So a dodgy PCB is might well be to blame! There's been a spate of UK pier fires on the south coast over the past decade (Brighton's West Pier twice in 2003, Hastings in 2010, Eastbourne in 2014). Eastbourne happened in late July.

Here's Eastbourne going up; home of many arcade memories during my teens.



Each time there is much speculation about whether it's an accident, vandals or locals doing it on purpose, unhappy about money being pored into regenerating a pier, or rival attractions keen not to lose business (there was much speculation on the latter front around the Brighton West Pier and Hastings fires, anyway, as both were closed at the time and restoration was planned/underway). Brighton's East Pier remains fine!

It seems certain in Eastbourne's case, at least, that it was an accident.

Hasting's post fire restoration remains well underway and Eastbourne looks good for repair too.

Brighton's West Pier? We'll see. Apparently an observation tower is being built to go on the pier, but it has looked like this for years:



Anyway - sorry... rather off topic!

EDIT: I missed this, and it's down the road from me (pretty much). Eastbourne pier open to the public again! I doubt we'll see a new arcade, and I hate to think of those cabs and PCBs all burned up on the sea floor!
