Podcasts - which do you listen to?
Do you listen to any podcasts? which ones? I listen to quite a few myself but I'm interested in finding more than I'm missing out on.
I was also looking for a thread on here to talk about "Serial" which is the latest podcast series by the crew behind Chicago WBEZ's "This American Life" . It's a huge spinoff series which is gaining popularity pretty fast. I just got to the 4th episode and I'm hooked.
It's basically a journalist/radio personality investigating a high-school murder from back in the 90s (the guy is still in prison) where she goes around interviewing people involved with the killer, using recorded police/investigation interviews, and speaks with the killer directly. There is no physical evidence that he committed the murder, and she's invested enough in the story to try and figure it out.
I use pocketcast (android) to stream it, but it's also available on the "this american life" podcast website.
http://serialpodcast.org/
I also listen to
Bill Burr's Monday Morning Podcast for well over a year.
Marc Maron's "WTF" for around the same amount of time
Norm McDonald Live
Cracked
Harmontown
Stuff You Should Know
Jeff Garlin "By The Way"
99% invisible
and Jim Harold's Campfire

I'm just now getting into it, so some of these are of varying quality. Mostly I judge these based on how professional the hosts can be about it. Too much swearing or getting sidetracked is an instant no on my part. I've waded through a river of really bad ones hosted by dudes that want to tell you about their imaginary sex lives instead of staying on topic. It's really sad.
I get in a Creepypasta or Lovecraft mood every now & then and look up random readings to freak myself out.

Maybe once every other year. And it has to be pretty groundbreaking stuff for that...I'd be more likely to listen to a non-gaming podcast (science, history, etc.) for that.Some-Mist wrote:Do you listen to any podcasts?

Just pro wrestling (with some MMA) podcasts: Wrestling Observer Radio, Talk'n Shop, and the rest of the Figure 4 Weekly podcasts if I still want more. Sometimes I'll listen to the Colt Cabana, Steve Austin, Jim Ross, and Chris Jericho podcasts if they have an interesting guest on. That's about it.

I mainly listen to trance podcasts.
Paul van Dyk - VONYC Sessions
Above & Beyond - Group Therapy

Occasionally Roguelike Radio, but not very often. My ability to tolerate some voices and personalities is very low.

Re: Podcasts - which do you listen to?
Podcasts are the reason the Tower Defense genre exists.
I used to listen to "How did this get made?" regularly, but as its popularity grew its quality dropped. Favorite episode would have to be 88 minutes. Special mention for the Jack O'Halloran interview.
I listen to "best of" clips from the Joe Rogan experience every now and then.
I religiously seek out Patrice O'Neal radio interviews on Youtube. That's pretty podcasty.

Two working class dudes, one black one white, just baked a tray of ten cookies together.
An oligarch walks in and grabs nine cookies for himself.
Then he says to the white dude "Watch out for that black dude, he wants a piece of your cookie!"

Re: Podcasts - which do you listen to?
I listen to quite a lot of podcasts while I'm working, mostly:
The Video Games Show
Scroobius Pip's Distraction Pieces
The 404
The Nerdist
Implant Games
Kermode and Mayo's Film Review
Filmspotting
The Moth
And a bit of whatever else seems interesting, Stitcher's recommendations are often quite good.
Edit: Almost forgot Adam & Joe's (now defunct) podcasts for BBC 6Music. I've heard them all before but they never fail to make me laugh.

Re: Podcasts - which do you listen to?
I commute via train a LOT, so podcasts are my lifeblood. I really don't know how I managed before.
DVDASA (David Choe and Asa Akira)
Adam Carolla
Joe Rogan
Classic Loveline
Dan Savage
Real Time (Bill Maher)
Dr. Drew and Adam Carolla
Hospital Records (DnB)
If I've exhausted all of the above, I'll turn to This Amercan Life, or The Moth.
I started on Serial, and I think I went for three episodes before I gave up..

Re: Podcasts - which do you listen to?
I listen to about 4 hours of podcasts a day, sometimes more. Not that many gaming ones though. My fav are:
Non-Gaming....
The Sceptics Guide to the Universe - My #1 science podcast
Skeptics with a K - Excellent UK based science and critical thinking Podcast
Be Reasonable - Exposes nutters
Passenger Seat Radio - I love this guy
Free Domain Radio - Excellent Philosophy Podcast. It has really changed the way I think about life.
The Joe Rogan Experience - A bit of everything. Brilliant.
Sick and Wrong - Comedy
The Complete Guide To Everything - Comedy
Gaming....
10Pence Podcast - UK classic arcade podcast. A bit too old sometimes, my arcade era is 85+
Midlife Gamer - I have zero in common with them as far as videogames go but they're pretty funny
All Gen Gamers - I love to hate this podcast. Fav quotes: 'was Shinobi in the arcade?'... And 'the Retron 5 allows you to play old games at 60fps, Snes f-Zero plays amazing in 60fps!' - Erm, it's 60fps anyway you bloody fools! :/ And Pete Dorrs' obsession with 'collecting' everything videogames related amuses me, even if its aimed at 5 year olds.

I loves me some podcasts. in fact, they've thrown a wrench into my Japanese study since I'm more likely to listen to just about anything other than my usual language stuff.
my faves:
Stuff You Should Know
Freakonomics Radio
KCRW's Design & Architecture
Stuff You Missed in History Class (I liked this a lot more with the previous hosts, tho)
News In Slow Japanese
Juan Epstein (interviews w/ mostly Hip Hop guests, but also actors, comedians and wrestlers on occasion)
the only game-related show I really check out is VGMmpire, but I gotta cherry pick those episodes since I haven't played many of the games they cover

David Choe is a world-traveling, nearly-homeless, bazillionaire who got in on Facebook early just by a stroke of luck and is an endlessly fascinating dude. My hero, really. You may have seen him hosting the Vice TV show, or his art on one of the Linkin Park albums.
Asa Akira like to fuck. A lot. She doesn't really have much to contribute beyond that.. haha..

Nothing. Podcasts are pointless.

Re: Podcasts - which do you listen to?
Haha! Interesting that that's actually Asa. Sounds intriguing!
I love the idea of podcasts, but I'm having a hard time getting in to any myself. Being one of the top 10 misanthropists in the U.S. midwest, I typically hate listening to humans talk about just anything. Typically I just sit in my corner at work and listen to fucking Pimsleur Japanese and my boss fart incessantly.
Can anyone recommend anything to a hateful bastard? I have an interest in a gaming podcast, but I also feel like that could make me the maddest if it's just a bunch of twats talking about collecting or how hard Contra is. Or a movie podcast maybe, or even a Japanese language one if that's a thing.
Maybe I should just stick to Judge Dredd radio dramas.

I don't listen to a lot of them, but a few that I do listen to include:
BS Report (Bill Simmons at ESPN)
Alton Browncast (not a lot of cooking stuff in this one for some reason)

Only really listen to two:
Penn's Sunday School - been following Penn since I came upon Bullshit. Glad this has stuck around - he's done a few short-length youtube series that died after a year or so.
This Week In Virology - when Ebola was a big thing someone on Ars Technica pointed readers to TWIV. I stuck with it after they moved on from Ebola. Aside from being interesting, Vincent has a perfect sciencey-radio-guy voice.
A couple of the TWIV guys do another podcast called Urban Agriculture which I've dabbled in but it's too soon to say I actively follow it.

Why yes indeeeeed! It is the entire Ninja Tune label submitting a mix each episode. This is a valuable export from Europe.PAPER/ARTILLERY wrote:Is this anything to do with the Ninja Tune label?DJ Incompetent wrote:Solid Steel [eclectic mixes]
If you search the podcast, you should be able to uncover a 1 hour show RSS with some wonderful audiovisual mixes added occasionally, also found on their Vimeo channel.
If you go to the soundcloud, it hosts their real 2+ hour shows channel. You can google some wizardry to convert their soundcloud into a podcast RSS. Or register their channel into your Sonos if you're fancy.
For everybody else, here is a place to start.

In this episode, The War of the Worlds radio broadcast is dubbed with a soundtrack by Ollie Teeba of The Herbaliser. It is one of my favorite things and it should be one of yours.
The episodes expire, so here is a link to an old thing called Raiding the 20th Century by DJ Food.

It is another treat for the headphones and helps me play videogames better for reasons.

For you two, give We Have Concerns a try. It is pre-produced so it stays on point for the 20min. It often takes a science-y article about some kind of new advancement and deconstructs the advancement in comparison to today's world, basically explaining through little jaded funny skits how the new advancement or technology will be abused in a 4chan sort of conclusion. The hosts have large gaming backgrounds but don't talk about videogames, so they take perspectives we can relate to.drauch wrote:Can anyone recommend anything to a hateful bastard?
