Anyone else having avatar problems?

I tried to change my avatar today and all I got was this -

The image wasn't too big either. I was wondering if anyone else has had this.

Seems like forum issues abound today. I got a few 'Could not connect to database' errors today, and then at one point I couldn't access any forum categories or threads for about 45 minutes. Seems as I wasn't the only one, as no one else posted anything during that interval...

Yup, some hick up today. For about an hour I got nothing but a white screen if clicking on a sub forum from the main forum index... :(

Ah well everything is fine now. :)

Ord: maybe if you try again now, you will be able to succesfully change your avatar

Maybe if you finally finished your Dragon Blaze review it might work. Just kidding. Does it do it with all avatars?

  Cheeky git! I'll get the review up before the end of January. I've tried it with various images and it just doesn't work.

I thought people actually had the x page image as an avatar .

There are a lot of 500 Internal Server Errors popping up lately.

Yeah, our account has been restricted. The forum is chewing up too much resource on the server, which is of course a rather large problem. I've turned down the posts per page to 25 (50 does seem somewhat excessive), but we may have to turn on auto pruning of old posts in the off topic section. I'd rather not.

Is there no way you can:

1) close the forum temporarily
2) archive the forum as it is in it's current state, and store the backup somewhere safe
3) prune a large majority of the Shmups Chat and Off Topic forums (since they are the biggest overall)
4) reopen the forums in their pruned states

?_?
Just a thought.

I second Icarus' ideas, and also suggest:

1. PM purge (of course, notify everyone first so they can save important PM's offline).
2. Deletion of members with zero posts/spambots/joke accounts/etc.
3. Switch to a forum skin/template that's less image heavy.
4. Ask members to host their avatars off-site to lessen the burden on the database and disc space.

I do not NOT agree with number 3.

The look of this forum is awesome and does not need to change one bit.
