OK. I need to revise my statements a bit....

Radiant Silvergun runs at about 50-60fps, no frame skip until a boss shows up, then it drops to about 30fps. Still playable and much improved performance. I give it a few more revisions and it should be damn near perfect.

Soukyugurentai runs at a full 60fps throughout the first two levels, but the intro launch scene has a corrupted background that wasn't present before.

Souky is still way too slower than normal here, but its saying that I'm getting 95-100% in the game, kinda makes the game a little bit boring..

Wow, RS is now quite playable for me on my P4 1.6--provided that I run it windowed. Around 40 fps. The sound is pretty bad, but that might be my set up.

You should just disable sound, it can improve performance dramatically.

Cool, Demon Front is added. I hope they can get it to work, I've always been curious about that one. I've had enough RSG for this lifetime :)

That was dumb.

I'm still not seeing the big deal, even if the Saturn conversions weren't better SSF still runs better anyways. Better yet a real Saturn, both of these have pretty noticeable input lag.

Not that I'm ungrateful to mamedev.

Anybody know why the download for new games since Mame 102 is so big (over 1 gig) when the number of new games listed is relatively small ??
Shoot, dodge, collect . . .it's the ONLY way to be !!

1) Write down the EXACT error you get. If we don't know the error message, we can't help.

2) Go to MAWS and check out the files you need:
http://www.mameworld.net/maws/romset/rsgun

These data files will live inside your stvbios.zip and rsgun.zip files (no need to decompress them, just leave them as whole zips and MAME decompresses them on the fly).

You need to make sure all of your data files exist, and have the right SHA1 hash. To check your files in depth, you can use ClrMAMEPro:
http://www.clrmame.com/

And here's a guide on how to use it properly:
http://www.mameworld.net/easyemu/clrmameguide.htm

this was the solution to my problem (it could be helpful to other people who cant get it to work)

i had to extract the stv bios files and put them all into the rsgun zip file. then the game worked fine!

You shouldn't need to do that. As long as the correct data files live inside the correct zip files, and the zip files live in your /roms/ folder, and that folder is the default data location for mame as specified in the mame.ini file (or mame32.ini if you use that), then all should be well.

If you've moved your MAME folder around, damaged your mame.ini file or are referring to games by their filename instead of romname (ie: you're starting the emulator with "mame rsgun.zip" instead of "mame rsgun" then that will break.

I get an error saying that I am missing epr19730.ic8

Following the aformentioned advice, I am seeing that it is part of the STV bios. Does that come seperatly from MAME? Or do I just have to move something around?

I could really use some help with this rev. of Mame. I'm used to Mame32, with the GUI, so when I try to open this latest version of Mame, I don't even get a chance to type what I need to for a game to run-it just gives me an error message to the effect that something's wrong with the graphics setting on my PC, but doesn't give me any advice on what to change. :?

So use MAME32 then, it's usually updated to the latest version within a few hours of official MAME.

Well, I tried out RSG and Souky, and was surprised with the results on my Athlon 2500+. I got about 20fps on RSG, which if you turn the frameskip up is about 80% normal speed, without sound. Souky ran a bit faster, and though I had a pretty crappy run and died on the second boss, it was running at full speed and playable. I got the Shienryu ROM as well, so I'll try that out later (maybe it will be faster seeing as how it's all 2D).

Wow, I didn't know that was out; thanks! But where else can I download it; I don't have a subscription to File Planet, and www.zophar.net doesn't have it, AFIK.

You can register for free on File Planet and download it from there. Took me 5 mins.

Is there anywhere else you can get this latest version of Mame32??

Got it and got it working, but thanks anyhow, Neon! :D

Well, I tried out both Cotton 2 and Cotton Boomerang, and while I don't get the whole juggling mechanic, so to speak, the games are beautiful and fun to play without it. Definately two must own Saturn titles.

But I'm done for now-and as usual, I feel like a thief. :(
