Small Prize: Gunbird 2 (US) and Cannon Spike (US) for Dreamcast. Each will be given by drawing. Drawing vouchers will cost 5 points each. Drawing is at the end of Feburary or beginning of March. Two possible winners!

Big Prize: Used, mint US Slim PS2 with Gradius III and IV or PCB(TBA). Winner can pick PS2 bundle or PCB, not both. This will be given to person with the highest rank at the end of May or beginning of June. If there is a tie in rank, points will be evaluated. If there is still a tie, i will do a drawing amongst the players who have the tie.

The Prizes
There will be a prize every three months. That's 4 prizes a year; 2 small ones and 2 big ones. The prize value will go like this:

3months-->win small prize-->3months-->win big prize-->3months-->win small...etc.

The small prize will be easier to win by everyone, not just the people on top. The way you actually win the prize may vary from time to time. Of couse points and rank will have everything to do with it. Small prizes total less than $100.00 USD. There can be multiple small prizes for many players to win, but the total of all the prizes will not exceed $100.00 USD.

Big prizes are a bit harder to get. This prize will probably go to the people who the highest number of points or who have achieved a certain rank. Conditions that must be met to be in order to win will vary. Big prizes are between $100.00 and $500.00 USD. WARNING!!! If you intend to compete for the big prizes, I suggest you take screen shots of your scores and post them especially if you are in Tier I. Cheaters are void to the prizes! Any suspicious scores and/or posts may cause you to be disqualified.

By the way, this will cost you nothing :D

I reserve the right to terminate this contest at any time for any reason. I'm paying for this all at my own expense. I reserve the right to void any of this contest and it's prizes, especially if someone decides to be a jerk and get legal on me. Sometimes circumstances beyond anyones control may arise, like losing one's job, and may not be able to finance these events. I will keep this contest going as long as I have the time and can afford what I promise to you. Thanks for understanding that I'm just trying to cover my ass.

Rules:

Code: Select all

1. Competition is 1 week long. Shmeet starts at 12:00PM PST on Mondays. This allows people to get at least one day to do some runs. Some people got work and/or school; this allows for more people to get their scores in.

2. As usual, the games will be played with the default settings.

3. There will be a tier rank system to help tell who has played this before. Basically, the pros will be in the top tier, people with experience will be in the mid tier, and people who have never played or haven't played much will be in the lower tier. All I'm basically doing is splitting up the score board and giving people the chance to strive for some sort of title to your skill. I will just fill the board out like a normal score board. Your score places you; that's all.

4. Can not use scores from a previous scoreboard. Scores must be from the week the current competition game is played

5. Emulation is okay. Not everyone can afford PCBs :)

6. When there is a significant differnece in versions of a game, the system to be used will be specified.

7. As with any scoreboard, please be honest and don't make up scores. Such offenses will cause said player to rot in hell.

8. Rules subject to change when I think of more that will improve the competition or if someone else comes up with a good idea. New rules can be voted in by poll. Old rules can be voted out by poll. If you have an idea, don't be affraid to speak.

9. All scores will be posted. There will not be just 10 spots. Everyone who plays will be put on the board.

10. Once a game is chosen, it will not be eligible for the poll for 1 month.

11. Please don't vote unless you plan to play. I want the players --not the spectators or people who love to vote in polls just to vote-- to chose their game.

12. The new poll will be posted 1 week in advance from the time shmeet. So when we start on Monday, there will also be a new poll for the following week's game.

Ramus, originally you wanted to give the prizes by rank, right?

Rank goes up by score, so we could simply keep this system. Because in the former system the rank depends only on the score. So we could just set a certain value of scores for winning the prizes.

if there will be several small prizes to get...
What about earning the prizes by special conditions?

So we could give, say 3 prices like this:

First price:
For beeing the first on the rankings.

Second price:
For the most 1st places in the Shmeet weeks.

Third for something else. (not average position, because this may people get to avoid joining games they are weak at)

Maybe a price for the one with the most weeks played. :)

If more people have the same No. of 1st places or weeks played, the one with the better final position in the shmeet rankings gets the price. And one person should only get one price per season, so that at 3 different people will win something.

What do you think about this, Ramus?

@Shatterhand:
So how about having a subforum in the highscore section? Where we could keep all the Shmeet threads. They are already spread throughout the forum and when I look for the older threads, I'll have to search for a while.

I'm confused. Maybe i'll have to give more prizes all at once rather than every few months. I'm going to give prizes in June which was when I was going to give the big prize and not give any in Feburary. Maybe that way I can give more prizes out to more people instead of the 1 person every three months. What you think? Maybe I should Just wait until December and give a bunch away. I think this going to cost me alot of money. I probably wont be able to give prizes next year. At least the competition is fun :)

I wouldn't worry too much about the prizes Ramus. I doubt that very many members that are participating in the meets are doing so soley for the chance to win something (and break the bank account of a fellow shmup member  ).

Just having a well organized, competitive, weekly meet with various different games is enough for most I would assume.

That's good to know. We'll see how long I can do this. I have a new idea posted in the shmup meet section that may help me afford to this longer and with more winners. If it doesn't work out, at least it's fun. I think I said that a few posts ago

Uhm Shatterhand...
Have you talked to the other moderators about a subforum for the weekly online shmeet?

Someone suggested that it could be a subforum in the hi score setion, which I think is a good idea.

It's sad to see a veteran player like Randorama not participating in the contest :(

However, good luck to you all!!
