SCART Switchbox?
Which switch boxes is everyone using out there? Anything good? Anything "name brand?"
I am prepared to spend some decent money (over 30 bucks) for a good switchbox if anyone has some ideas.
This is what I am currently using an have quite a bit of audio feedback...

Belkin makes pretty decent cables, I was eyeballing this one.

Not sure what makes this "professional" but it was the only other decent looking one on ebay.

Re: SCART Switchbox?
After searching ><
Quit a few people are saying that this is one of the best:
http://www.keene.co.uk/keene-1x5-scart- ... n-psu.html
Is there anywhere to get these for less then 155 dollars?

Re: SCART Switchbox?
Belkin one and the "Professional" one you linked to are almost certainly junk.
The Keene device you linked to is a SCART splitter not a switch.

Re: SCART Switchbox?
I use a 6x2 Shinybow switch.
Not cheap, but it's worked with anything I've plugged into it. My Keene scart commander's didn't.
Also it has a small footprint looks reasonably attractive as well.

Re: SCART Switchbox?
and just to illustrate why people jump through hoops to get rid of SCART, my Keene SCART Commanders worked perfectly with everything, while the Shinybow I tested did not

For the people who own the shinybow 6 scart switcher, How are you getting audio out of the switcher? I don't see any AV audio ports on the unit where you can plug in audio cables.

Re: SCART Switchbox?
I personally bought a cheap Extron Matrix switch and used that instead of bothering with SCART issues. Considering mine has 16in16out and cost £50 less than the Shinybow, it was a fantastic investment. It wasn't exactly cheaper when you add in scart to BNC converters and the cables to the monitor, but if you have the space it's without a doubt better. It also handles Component, Composite, S-Video and VGA flawlessly, which is a plus.

I'm using superg's gscartsw. Haven't had any problems though it's an older version than what he has made now.
He has a thread here: http://shmups.system11.org/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=50851

Re: SCART Switchbox?
I have a joytech JS965 scart switch ive been using for a while. The video quality is good, it seems to switch everything i dont get ghosting if i turn on more than one console, and the scart sockets are quality.
It cost me more for shipping than the unit did. I also had to buy a power supply for it because the one it had doesnt work here.
It also comes with a remote control to switch inputs.
the only downside ive found with it is that it only has 4 inputs so if you have more consoles than that youll have to link another manual switch to one of the 4 inputs on it to get more inputs.
Joytech also makes a component video switch that has 7 inputs. it also comes with a remote. I also own that one and its just as good. its called the JS965C
also - Both of these switches are big and heavy. they wont get pulled off of your entertainment center by the weight of the cables.

Re: SCART Switchbox?
I took a chance and ordered one of these SCART Switchers: http://tinyurl.com/k53cu6q
I was expecting a piece of junk, but to my surprise, no picture or sound degradation and no power bleeding into the other systems even when 5 consoles are plugged in. It does what it's suppose to do, connect one system at the time to the XRGB-Mini when you press a button. Only downsides to this switcher, the buttons a very mechanical, so you really got to push them in, nothing electronic in there like the Bandridge switchers. Also, it stinks, literally, you can tell it was made in China without looking at the back of the package. I left mine outside for about an hour to let it air out :p

Re: SCART Switchbox?
That one looks like the old Oakfield Leisure one that's known to be okay apart from dimming the picture.

Re: SCART Switchbox?
I've tried many "before and after" tests, haven't noticed any picture changes from SCART to XRGB-Mini Vs SCART to Switcher to XRGB-Mini. From what I've read, digital switchers are usually the main culprits behind image quality degradation. A mechanical switcher, provided that it's built properly, should be doing the same job that you can do manually, which is hooking one device at the time.BuckoA51 wrote:That one looks like the old Oakfield Leisure one that's known to be okay apart from dimming the picture.

Re: SCART Switchbox?
Would one of these work with Japanese 21pin? Or just works on the scart pinout?
Damn Tim, you know there are quite a few Americans out there who still lives in tents due to this shitty economy, and you're dropping loads on a single game which only last 20 min. Do you think it's fair? How much did you spend this time?

Re: SCART Switchbox?
Good question, I have no JPN21Pin cables to try it. Someone once told me that switchers and extension cables should be universal, but I didn't want to risk it, hence why I opted with SCART instead of JPN21Pin.Strider77 wrote:Would one of these work with Japanese 21pin? You might wanna check out phonedork's review of the SCART splitter - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ucm7k64llO0 starting at about the 5:00 minute mark until 6:32 where he reviews four different models. I personally use the third one and have had no major issues with. However, he highly recommends the Bandridge 5 Way SCART Selector.

Bandridge is no longer in business, so their SCART switchers are becoming rare and expensive.azmun wrote:You might wanna check out phonedork's review of the SCART splitter - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ucm7k64llO0 starting at about the 5:00 minute mark until 6:32 where he reviews four different models. Re: SCART Switchbox?
Previously used both a shinybow and a set of keenes. Both high quality switches, with the keene having autoswitching working for most sources. Used the Shinybow for it's matrix capabilites. I've since moved on to a pair of extrons, so the Keenes and Shinybow are available if someone is in the market

I was super fortunate to finally find a MadCatz SCART switch in the UK last year. My friend obtained it off ebay UK and shipped it to me. Works great. These are next to impossible to find though now.

I also bought one of these 3-input switches like the third one on the video, like the Hama AV-100S, but metal case. So far I had no issues with it. I'll post a review soon.azmun wrote:You might wanna check out phonedork's review of the SCART splitter - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ucm7k64llO0 starting at about the 5:00 minute mark until 6:32 where he reviews four different models. And here it is the review with some pictures from inside it, in case someone is interested. I'll make some screen captures when I get my capture device.skooter wrote:I also bought one of these 3-input switches like the third one on the video, like the Hama AV-100S, but metal case. Re: SCART Switchbox?
I picked up a Hama AV-100S recently and it's been working great so far. I even modified some of the RCA jacks to act as outputs for RGBS (which is very easy BTW) so I can hook it up directly to my PVM.

Re: SCART Switchbox?
If anyone is interested in the Keene switches, I have a few that are not in use. I was going to post in the Trade Station, but figure that I'll note it here first.
I got them direct from Keene and they are MIB with everything included.

I can't see any difference between the capture using the switch and connecting the console straight to the Framemeister.

Man, wish you would have been here 2 weeks ago, just bought one from Europe,
It seems to have an issue autoswitching to Genesis, every other system works fine. How did yours work for it?
