When I first played Hotline Miami on the PC with JDE ages back, I really didn't like the game. I was truing to enjoy it as a run 'n' gun on an arcade tip, and it wasn't working for me. Just got back into it on Vita, thinking of it as a non-arcade fast-paced strategy game, and while I'm not going to claim it's perfect, I really enjoyed it. Perfect for Vita portable play too.

Dashed through CounterSpy too. That's good simple fun while it lasts.

Murasaki Baby's another one I've tried of late. A little style over substance maybe. I got tied of it's simplicity a little quick.

And I've banged on about Velocity 2X alread, but that was ace fun, and again, great for portable gaming sessions.

Danganronpa 2: Very much worth it, though I found it worse than the first game. Both games should definitely be played in order.

Natural Doctrine: Performance is unstable, but acceptable on Vita. Haven't really given this game much time yet (well I got my entire party instakilled in the tutorial dungeon) so I can't comment much on it except to say one thing: do not trust reviews on this. Game reviewers don't like strategy games. They don't like hard games. They don't like game with complex mechanics. They mostly don't like Japanese games. Read up on the game and watch some gameplay to decide if the game is for you. Of course I'm hoping no one here trusts reviews in the first place.

Duke Nukem 3D, htoL#NiQ and VVVVVV: All have trophy lists now, which might hint that they're close to release date.

Resogun: Coming to Vita, by the same developers who ported Dead Nation, which is a bit worrying.

Hyperdevotion Noire - Goddess Black Heart: Hyperdimension Neptunia SRPG spinoff with Sting involvement is getting localized. Could be interesting.

My Vita after lots of heavy use has its first visible scratch :(
Nowhere near as bad as looking at my lightly used 3DS XL (that scratches itself) or equally lightly used PSP (that can't handle cleaning) though.

Playstation TV US launch seems ... very bad. Games that definitely should be working aren't, there are apparently even PSP games that work on a Vita but not a Playstation TV. There are games that were patched for Playstation TV in Japan and those patches still haven't been localized (why didn't Sony prioritize working with publishers on this) most importantly Ys Celceta.

Has anyone played Woah Dave! already? I don't know if a release date for the Vita version has been announced yet but it looks like a must buy.

Yeah this is exactly why I haven't picked one up yet. Not sure why we haven't got a patch for it in the US yet, but I have little reason to pick a unit up until then, not to mention the other compatibility issues....such a shame cause I was really looking forward to this unit :(

Hangman's Gambit is awful too

I finished Danganronpa 2 last night. Overall, I think I liked it more than the original. The cast is better, but sometimes the scenarios can feel incredibly contrived. I don't remember that being as much of a problem in the original. Everything else is great, though. Especially the soundtrack: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AIg5F9l0PAo

I just got a promo code that's to do with the UK (so I presume Euro-wide) launch of Playstation TV.

It lets me download OlliOlli, Worms and Velocity Ultra for Vita (and thus for PS TV also).

But I've already got all three games!

So who wants it? It's yours for free (I got it for free, so may as well share the love). I assume it will work on a Vita (without any PS TV hardware needed), but I don't know. Similarly, I've no idea if it's Euro locked. It should work immediately, but there's a slim chance it will be locked until PS TV launch (November 14th).

It can't be split, I'm sure, as it's a single code for all three games.

First come, first served!

Seems we have to wait for early January for Duke Nukem 3D. Unless you were amongst the Europeans who got it when it was accidentally available in the store for a while.

Impressions on the port are good (as they should be, there's no reason the Vita would have problems with a Build engine game). It's the 360 port with widescreen and the expansions added.

Roundabout is coming to PSV/PS4.

I might be the only who's really excited about the combination of cheesy FMVs and Kuru Kuru Kururin gameplay. Somehow I haven't had time for this yet though, but now I'm waiting and hoping for 60 FPS on Vita.

So I got a PS TV and thought I'd write some of my experiences:

Compatibility is disappointing even when you know what you're getting into. I was hoping for some positive surprises, stuff that was said not to work has gotten patched lately, no such thing. Especially disappointing is PSP compatibility (Castlevania, Gradius, Tom Clancy's EndWar). The Vita titles that work in Japan but don't work here hurts too.

PSP Image quality is nice. Maybe not as good as a PSP component out to a LKV7000 or XRGB-mini, but much more convenient and definitely not something that will actively bother you while playing. Vita games also look nice, but 3D rendered games end up looking slightly lower resolution than PS2 games. Quality of 720p to 1080p scaling in displays makes a larger difference than I would've thought.

Transferring PSP/PSX saves between a Vita and a PS TV is nowhere as easy as it should be, requiring a 3rd device (PC or PS3). Transferring Vita saves is easy if you have PS+, less so if you don't.

Things to watch out for: first time calibration when it wants you to set screen size remember the Vita screen is taller than 16:9. If you tell the PS TV to use max screen size, you'll cut off top and bottom of screen. So do actually check calibration and don't just max it out. Disable the controller touch emulation for games that don't need it (accidentally losing a game due to the controller going into touch mode is not a mistake you want to make).

Wish they would've put a RTC battery in this thing, setting the time each time I unplug it is annoying.

Oh and if anyone wants the promo code (it's EU only, I tried redeeming it on my US account) for OlliOlli, Worms and Velocity Ultra (I think?) tell me and I'll see if I can find it and send it to you.

htol:NiQ is getting a physical release and a limited edition too. With the prices the Japanese physical edition is going for, that should be nice for collectors who want that game. Only available for preorder on the NISA store yet but Europeans who want to import will probably eventually get the chance (for less than the 100 USD the Japan edition is going for...)

Proud new owner of a Vita 1000 8)

Sadly, I still can't play Bravely Default, but no point buying a 3DS now until the new model comes out next year.

In the meantime, Gravity Rush and FFX-2 HD are keeping me busy, and I will definitely be picking up Tales of Hearts R and hopefully the Danganronpa games as I've heard very good things.

PS Vita actually being acknowledged at PlayStation Experience. A few games announced but the only ones I remember because I really want them: Day of the Tentacle SE, Shovel Knight and The Banner Saga.

Need For Speed: Most Wanted is also free on PSN for the next day or so. Glad I didn't buy it when it was on sale a while back.

The rest of the Vita announced seemed like more ports and indie games, as usual. Zzzzzzzzzz.

While I do get that some people don't like ports, I'll never understand judging games based on the amount of people who worked on it.

Darkest Dungeon looks nice, wasn't sure it was coming to Vita so I didn't mention it earlier, but apparently it is. If my jRPG backlog wasn't so massive I'd probably be excited for Suikoden II coming as a PSX classic too.

Not specifically about the Vita, but Nippon Ichi is now in real danger of going out of business and is banking entirely on Disgaea 5 sales to keep themselves afloat.

I say let it happen, and let someone else buy their IPs. They've earned it after their particularly terrible run on the PSP/PS3 last generation. Hundred Knight was their big opportunity to prove that they could handle a modernized 3D action game on their own, and they completely blew it. The Disgaea series and its ilk were never worth talking about in mechanical terms, being made specifically for aspies who are easily impressed by big numbers and flashy displays, and have tricked themselves into thinking they enjoy endless grinding for its own sake. Their US publishing division has also gained a reputation for tossing out one irredeemable kusoge after another, such as Mugen Souls and Tokitowa, and for releasing worthless hardsubbed anime DVDs.

They were already in a similar position a few years ago if memory serves, and actually openly apologized for publishing one of their recent releases at the time (Last Rebellion, I think, whose developer has since gone out of business); they were also banking on Disgaea to save them back then, so we'll see if lightning strikes twice...for all their faults I hafta say I'd be sorry to see them go on either side of the Pacific.

Assuming they're not just saying this to boost sales, anyways...

It's pretty much confirmed as a mistranslation, which is exactly what I was expecting when people started posting about it.

As for Disgaea, I pretty much just play the story part then do the minimum to beat the postgame bosses which really don't usually require that much grinding since a lot of them can be cheesed at low stats if you know the AI(Disgaea D2 Baal actually does need you to be high power and have a good strategy, but it should still take less time than some other game series optional bosses to prepare for). The whole see how much damage I can get isn't something I do, but it's definitely interesting to see how others push it.

I've spent a lot more time on some other RPGs than I have spent on any of the Disgaeas. It's not really much longer than most other games assuming you're just trying to beat all the content.

The Disgaea series has always been good mindless fun, and then Disgaea 4's main game is decent strategy-wise (if you avoid grinding). I would say the series has mostly improved with each new installment, so I'm optimistic about Disgaea 5.

You can definitely get far in the maingames without grinding if you focus a bit on just a few characters.

I was able to do most of Disgaea 2 maingame without needing to grind by mainly focusing on Adell and a Magic Knight. Had to train a little for the final chapter. I managed to do Disgaea D2 by focusing on Flonne and Sicily(went to item world when forced for 10 floors then again in a different item for 20 floors after getting beat by the chapter 4 boss, didn't have to replay the story maps though).

I remember grinding a bit in 1, but I don't remember too much about it. And Flonne was one of my main characters, so anyone who's played through that knows how annoyed I was at the final fight. The speedrun captures some high level monsters, so I guess that's one way to avoid needing to grind for the story in both 1 & 2(though it wouldn't work in the PSP version of 2 since it was changed to be based on Adell's level)

Disgaea 3 and 4 seem ridiculous in terms of no grinding maingame due to the much lower mana gains and the skill modifiers taking place before defenses are calculated. There's a guide on GameFAQs that does minimal grinding for 4, but I'm not sure how you'd do 3 with minimal/no grinding.

I've never actually done the optional stuff in La Pucelle, but I wonder how a no grinding run of that would go as well(obviously you wouldn't be getting either of the Special Endings for some chapters). And I barely played any of Phantom Brave or Soul Nomad as I didn't like the gameplay.

Steins;Gate is getting a western Vita release.

2015 already looking like a fantastic year for the Vita (partially because of all the 2014 games delayed into it). Edit:

Ascension: Chronicle of the Godslayer
Axiom Verge
Broken Age
Cosmic Star Heroine
Darkest Dungeon
Day of the Tentacle Special Edition
Duke Nukem 3D Megaton Edition
Earth Defense Force Portable V2
Grim Fandango
Heart Forth, Alicia
Hotaru no Nikki
Hotline Miami 2: Wrong Number
Hyperdevotion Noire: Goddess Black Heart
IA/VT Colorful
Kodoku
La-Mulana
Persona 4: Dancing All Night
Shovel Knight
Steins;Gate
The Banner Saga
Tokyo Twilight Ghosthunters
VVVVVV
Zodiac

All games I'm probably purchasing in 2015. It's already looking to be an expensive year. Of course to most people this is just more ports, stupid indies and weird Japanese games.

Cheers for that list zellSF. Certainly a couple I await keenly.

I really was a touch disappointed by Hotline Miami on first playing it on PC. Then I seemed to 'get it' on Vita. Can't wait for that sequel.

And I didn't know Ascension was coming! One of my favourite physical card games, so I can't wait for that!
