There's a kickstarter up for an HDMI-out Gameboy adapter, which looks fairly promising.
There's lots of specific questions that aren't really addressed, but one thing I gleaned is that it uses 7x integer scaling, so it should look quite nice.
Of course, it's INCREDIBLY expensive for what it is- I don't know if they're using an FPGA or what, but a DIY kit would be way cheaper (and way less marketable to the public...). Still, it's a unique product afaik, and seems like a nice enough implementation.
Did anybody see the hdmyboy Kickstarter?

31,000 youtube views = $65000 goal, of course. Unfortunately they're vague about where the money goes. Additionally I see original GameBoy *only* support as a pitfall here, though support for other board layouts would definitely be a "stretch goal," and I didn't see anything about impact on battery life.
Finally I also would like to see something on the use of different filters to emulate GB screen quality - might be interesting for the few games that use "blend effects" based on the screen blur. Also, input lag demonstration. So many unknowns.

I think they mentioned they got 8 hours out of the system with HDMI-out. Of course since you're basically console-izing it anyway, a power adapter works just as well.
They seem pretty willing to answer questions on the project's comments page, might want to throw some things out there for specific questions.

id like to see a hdmi mod for the gamecube because it would also cover game boy stuff.
neat thing is It could probably be made as a plug-in unit with an hdmi port on it if someone could find enough matching digital port connectors on the cube.

It is always nice to see these kind of 'hobby' projects, but taken the aimed sales price in account and the small target market, this add-on hardly has a chance to be a commercial success, IMO. And indeed, how are they planning to spend the money from the Kickstart?

I certainly hope they're using an FPGA with as high as the goal (and price) is :S.bobrocks95 wrote:There's a kickstarter up for an HDMI-out Gameboy adapter, which looks fairly promising.

Recreations of the digital port connector won't happen unless someone wants to order several hundred or even thousand from a Chinese plant. As far as I know, connectors for stuff like the SNES are only available to custom cablers because third party companies still make cables for them, so factories already have the molds or are making the connectors anyway. The other option is destroying component cables, which obviously will never happen.
