Almost every comic book artist with a large body of work has dabbled in fetishism/sexual deviancy somewhere. Or just unrestrained lunacy, like Steve Ditko's Ayn Randian fever dream rants.

Good call on Burai Fighter (and Bucky + Salamander obviously). It doesn't seem very remembered even on here... I wasn't expecting much, but it turned out to be an excellent Forgotten Worlds / Image Fight hybrid. Quite tough, too, and I feel some of Recca's technical voodoo in there. Killer bomb. KID have quite the catalogue of undersung gems it seems.

Would love to hear your thoughts on Jackie Chan and Power Blazer, I've been considering both for a while now.

Got a new TV from the pre-Black Friday sales, a 60-inch Sony (model KDL60W630B.) I'm upgrading from a 40-inch Sony I bought five years ago, and I'm pretty sure my living room couldn't handle anything much bigger than this. Very nice so far. Unfortunately, I don't think I'll be trying Tate mode with this one anytime soon...

Seriously ?
On a 60" 16:9 the vertical 3:4 area is already huge, much bigger than a Japanese candy cab's.

Zero was cheapish, Wild Guns not at all. I shopped for months and a few weeks ago I found one within the province and decided I was tired of waiting. Prices are up quite a bit since the summer on that one in particular...

Prices seem to be up on EVERYTHING...
Damn Tim, you know there are quite a few Americans out there who still lives in tents due to this shitty economy, and you're dropping loads on a single game which only last 20 min. Do you think it's fair? How much did you spend this time?

Zero the Kamikaze Squirrel represent. One of the few gaming stinkers I picked out at the electronics store rack as a kid, based on a magazine ad that made it look ten times cooler.

After Recca and Burai Fighter, decided to go for a KID Famicom shooting trio and get mah WAKUSEI KAIGENREI on:

Image

Not the greatest boxart, but eh. Whaddayagonnado. Although I always dig it when covers reflect their games' artwork (cf. Raf Warudo). Yeah the pussymouthed aliens are both in the game.

Wicked shooter. I'd been interested in it for a long while, but had my reservations about isometric ground-based shooting with a strong jumping element. Having spent some time on it though, it's totally sound - control is razor sharp on both land and air, collision is surprisingly tight, and design-wise it's as assuredly arcadey as Recca and Burai. This is a fucking shooter, nil compromise.

Standout mechanic is the awesome, Super Shinobi-recalling somersault bomb. Tap jump for an aimed blast perfect for scorching boss weakpoints; hold for popcorn-raking napalm death. Like Recca and Burai this is a YGW-worthy Weaponised Bomb not meant for holding back. Wipe out crowds and chuck it in big motherfuckers' faces, repeatedly. Super protip: you can collect items and shoot baddies while in the air! Handy to know when you inevitably have a ton of powerups landing on hazardous ground or pits. Super protip II: in the bike stage (st4), hold down and hit jump to wheelie! It does nothing but does it really need to? Don't do this when you need to jump a gap! Super protip III: if you die and want to keep your laser/spread power, switch to the other before the screen fades out! Dis game be deep yo. Whole lotta secret bombable doors + bomber multikill bonus round triggers, too.

Chief criticism is definitely the weak soundtrack, lacking in both tunes and oomph. It's no Recca or Abadox unfortunately. SFX are strong though. It is visually striking, too, with discomfortingly alien locales reminiscent of 2010 Street Fighter, and some stylish (+skippable) intermissions wistfully recalling the happier times of CAPTAIN MAX MAVERICK before plunging him back into hellish biomechanical hell.

Never played this, should be at least decent. In any case, it was dirt cheap.

Had Jackie Chan back in the day and loved it, then I later got the PCE version, thinking it would be even better (cuz better graphics), but was pretty let down. Well consensus seems to be the FC version is actually the all-round better game. I'll post when I've spent more time with it again.

I just picked Power Blazer up cuz it was cheap as chips. The much improved Western version, Power Blade, is the one you're gonna want to get.
