I agree. In this case, we're talking about a new movie in a film franchise that has only one almost-decent movie to its name. With the sociopath responsible for LOST and Cloverfield in charge.

Objectively we can expect something that's pretty to look at, dialogue that will slightly approach what a human being might actually say, and that's that. A pretty limerick.

For all the flack the movies Lucas made in his green screen basement in between his meals, at least they made us feel something. Cosmic embarrassment on how not to flirt with a girl. Racist lizard men. The infamous NOOOOOOooooooooooooOOOOOOOOOoooooooooooooooooooo.

Tell me you believe you'll be able to remember 7 thirty years from now in such detail after only seeing it once.

ESB is more than decent, and SW & TRotJ are more than decent. I think the success of Star Wars is more in its unique aesthetic than anything else. The score plus the costumes just made a chocolate+peanut butter crazy-good synergy. But, to Lucas's obvious chagrin, the aesthetic is necessary, but not sufficient.

Abrams will deliver a movie rating a solid B. That's what he's good at, and that's good enough for me at this point.

^ I'm with you. A solid B after enduring the protracted decade long slow death of the prequels will be more than enough for me.

I still can't believe Lucas sold the Star Wars rights to Disney though. I'll give the man credit, he may be altogether useless at doing justice to the series, but giving your baby away (and it's a big baby) takes some balls.

What a bland, limp-wristed, merchandising-ready subtitle.

Honestly, I'm looking forward to the inevitable Mr. Plinkett review more than the movie itself.

Me too -- I'm sure it will leave us all flacid, but at the very least it "looks like Star Wars". And yeah, the subtitle sucks, but oh, well.

I don't know, that can't be safe to the wielder. As if lightsabers weren't dangerous enough already.

There is concept art from Revenge of the Sith showing Ki-Adi-Mundi with a lightsaber claw. I guess it was too cool looking for Lucas' approval stamp.

The soccer-ball droid was a bit silly though.

So silly. Just look at it; study that picture. A bend at the wrist at the wrong time would cut his frickin' forearm in half. Too impractical. NO STARS.

So sick of the "badass epic super cool (insert buzzword)" dark sith twat. It was already tiring enough dealing with all the expanded universe drivel where everyone's a master badass with dual lightsabers and easy access to blowing enemies back with the flick of a wrist. Wish that ball droid would roll down my throat and cease my curiosity of watching the inevitable travesty once it slithers its way into theaters. "Mystery box" my ass; I know damn well how this will pan out, J.J..

Henry from No More Heroes had no problems.

Total nonsense as far as the design working in real life goes, though. You're just as likely to stab yourself with the prongs as you are to kill someone else.

I thought it was great. Loved most things about it, actually can't think of anything I didn't like. The little ball droid didn't bother me, as long as he has some character. There's plenty of cgi in this which is to be expected, but it looks ok. The ship designs should be enough to get me over that hurdle.

I like the lightsaber, thought the atmosphere was good. It looks like a modern Star Wars film in the best way - iconic ships in new settings doing new things.

Luckily I'm old so a year isn't a long time to wait.

That one Star Wars fps was a pretty good simulator for what would happen in real Star Wars jedi fights. Whoever uses Force Push first wins 100% of the time as the guy on the receiving end falls into a pit of CGI generated death.

Except if one of the combatants is ET. He knows Force Levitate.

That's why ET is the best jedi.

Genuinely my first thought when I saw it - "hey, didn't they do this with the not-at-all-lightsabers in No More Heroes?"

Glad to see the internet is amusing itself and the dullards can get upset about it. Who said it was the same blade as a lightsaber produces? Looks like venting to me and seems one of the more plausible aspects of a universe where a mystical energy field controls everyone's destiny.

So wait, stormtroppers are no longer retconned clones of the wife-beater from "Once were Warriors?" Or is that a good guy in a stolen uniform?

Frigging Tatooine was originally supposed to be a dusty backwater in the middle of nowhere. Damn place has become the political and cultural center of the galaxy. Or are we still sticking with the whole "Darth Vader = Jesus" thing and now it's space Jerusalem?

The X-Wings over the water were indeed cool. What you don't see is after that shot, a little tow-headed boy riding the soccer ball droid zooms past them shrieking "Yippy Skippy!" before blowing up the bad guys by accident. Then he bones the chick riding the rectangle speeder.
Two working class dudes, one black one white, just baked a tray of ten cookies together.

An oligarch walks in and grabs nine cookies for himself.

Then he says to the white dude "Watch out for that black dude, he wants a piece of your cookie!"

I found it humiliating that I was pretty sure that Stormtroopers from the original movies were and still are mostly enlisted norms... so to make sure this was just my imagination I looked it up and I was unfortunately right. I am a nerd. : [

So the official story is, the original storm troopers were elite clones of some obscure minor character from the original movies, time passed, they started using clones of other people and eventually accepted people from the general population. I guess because they're cheaper than clones. We're all worse people now for knowing this.

But it is a good assumption the person shown is a Good Guy since he's the only face we see in the entire trailer.

I briefly spoke to Temuera Morrison at a convention once. He seemed like a cool guy, and is still the only Maori person I have met. His abilities were definitely above the role of Formerly Faceless Minor Character's Clone Dad.

Yeah, I have nothing to be cynical about yet. The main thing is it doesn't look like the prequels, which is already a massive boon, and it's not directed by Lucas, which is only a good thing. Abrams certainly isn't the world's best director and I'm hoping he puts the stupidity on hold - Star Wars doesn't require as much farce and quippery as his Trek reboots - but it could be in worse hands.
