Wii virtual console save states not working

Hi - I've read that the Wii virtual console has a feature whereby if you exit a game by pressing the home button and exiting to the Wii menu, the game state will be saved so that when you restart the game, the game will start exactly where you left off.

The trouble is that this isn't working for me at all :/ I am using N64 games only and they won't resume. When I press the home button & select exit to the Wii dashboard, it just gives the usual message that all unsaved data will be lost & then I quit to the Wii dashboard, switch the console off & on again, boot up the game and it just goes back to the game's title screen...

I have the laterst firmware - could anyone help me with this?

Suspend play doesn't work for N64 or (IIRC) Neo-Geo games.
