Fudoh's ode to old display technology
Re: Fudoh's ode to old display technology
Does the screen work properly now? Did it work properly with other inputs before this?
Re: Fudoh's ode to old display technology
It wasn't set to RGB XD sorry guys, idk what I'm doing. But I got everything going smoothly now :] I wish my phone camera wasnt busted so i could take quality pics. Everything looks 1000x times better in person blah blah you all know.

Re: Fudoh's ode to old display technology

Thought the monitor was lying on DK Bongos at first glance.

It can't hurt to watch the Public Surplus auctions, which is where Arasoi got his. If you're lucky you might find one near you!

Re: Fudoh's ode to old display technology
Hey guys, wondering if I could get some help.
I just got my hands on a PVM 2130QM and I've been doing lots of adjustments to it and I've finally looking pretty good.
The only issue that remains is some vertical linearity issues, the scalines at the top of the screen at more spaced out than at the bottom, only very slightly but it means that the geometry at the top is more stretched than the bottom.
Has anyone had some experience with this monitor? is there a pot within the system to adjust the linearity? it's referenced in the service manual but I have no idea where it is.
Thanks!

Re: Fudoh's ode to old display technology
I have this PVM-14M4E which initially had a quite greenish picture, mostly noticeable with darker tones. I've fixed this by setting R/B bias very high and G bias very low, and the image is very good now, but I'm still wondering what could be the cause of this. With these settings, when I go to turn the monitor on the image is initially very purplish and it takes maybe 1-2 minutes to get to a normal state. I'm thinking it could be uneven wear on the electron guns or maybe a cap issue; the latter wouldn't surprise me as I've heard about capacitor issues with M-series PVMs in particular.
Could this maybe even be related to that mysterious ACC option? It's on by default but I really don't know what it does...

is it normal to have 3 rgb lines at the top of the screen in underscan mode? or is this a sign of DEATH?

Thoughts on picking up a 22" NEC MULTISYNC CRT that uses a Mitsubishi Diamondtron tube?
I'm not sure what I need it for but it's cheap, local, big for a crt computer monitor and NEC.

Re: Fudoh's ode to old display technology
I have another BVM question... I just replaced the deflection module in my 20F1U, but the picture is behaving exactly like it would when the sync isn't set to the right setting, only I have it at the right setting. Any ideas?
Re: Fudoh's ode to old display technology
Been tempted to, I see them around cheap. I guess best use would be with dreamcast. One day these things aren't going to be around anymore, if you have the room I'd say snag it.cicada88 wrote:Thoughts on picking up a 22" NEC MULTISYNC CRT that uses a Mitsubishi Diamondtron tube?

If it helps I'm really glad I picked up a 19" Dell-branded Trinitron monitor last week. Looks beautiful with the Dreamcast, and will be useful for future apartment-living or a spare room (I don't want to move my 32" Trinitron for quite a while).

It's $25 I'm not sure I can pass it up.

That's not bad at all. Here's a typical crappy cell phone picture of the similar monitor I just picked up. I'm sure the NEC would look just at good if not better evencicada88 wrote:It's $25 I'm not sure I can pass it up.

Re: Fudoh's ode to old display technology
I'd do that in a heartbeat. I've only got a 17" PC CRT these days. Though 22" should be a big heavy stinker, and it'll be interesting to see if it trips your breakers!

Do it.cicada88 wrote:It's $25 I'm not sure I can pass it up.
I have a 21" Mitsubishi tube under the LaCie brand, and it's the best CRT I have. It can go up to 2400x1800 @60hz. And it looks great with 480p stuff too. That's including the PS2, since it accepts sync-on-green (I imagine yours will as well). For Wii, I use a component to VGA transcoder, which can make the picture a little dark, so I boost it with an Extron RGB.
And nyder is right, these things are going extinct FAST. I'm kicking myself for not picking up the couple 21" Sony tubes I saw a couple years back, because you NEVER see them on craigslist now.
Here's a pic of Gradius V running in 480p (blurry but you get an idea of the clarity of color).

I took a look inside the monitor and saw these two strange components, what exactly are they? http://imgur.com/RuygpGzXan wrote:I have this PVM-14M4E which initially had a quite greenish picture, mostly noticeable with darker tones. Re: Fudoh's ode to old display technology
Got A quick question. I bought a bvm recently and for some reason the screen flickers on and off with green lines and this only seems to happen when I first turn it on, in the first 30 mins or so then it stops ? It is some form of iinterference or maybe its just something going on as the set warms up?
Re: Fudoh's ode to old display technology
another quick one, when i bought my monitor i had to re-size the picture as it was too small so i used the Vertical and Horizontal position screws on the pull out board to extend the picture the fit the screen (to make it full screen), is this the correct way to do this as obviosuly the picture looks worse for being 'stretched out'?
is there any way to jump to full screen without manually re-sizing to keep a better resolution?

Re: Fudoh's ode to old display technology
Does anybody here have any information about PVM 14N1E ?
I just can't find much about it on internet.

Re: Fudoh's ode to old display technology
I'm guessing that's on an older bvm so that must be the same as doing it in the menus on the newer ones. That's what you need to do to fill up the screen.gamelife wrote:another quick one, when i bought my monitor i had to re-size the picture as it was too small so i used the Vertical and Horizontal position screws on the pull out board to extend the picture the fit the screen (to make it full screen), is this the correct way to do this as obviosuly the picture looks worse for being 'stretched out'?

Not a solution to anybody's problem here but I thought I'd share it.

Re: Fudoh's ode to old display technology
I picked up a BVM D24E1WJ recently but it has a problem with overload screen
I still dont have the bkm-10r unit, maybe this is the reason?
Here is the problem, the monitor light up just for a few seconds and turn down with the overload indicator flashing

Re: Fudoh's ode to old display technology
I'm going nearly going crazy in my attempts to get 3 BVM-2016P (Which is the EU model - seems like it's named BVM-1916 outside EU) to show a stable image.
All show the same degree of stable image. Tried both csync and with composite video as sync, but to no avail.
Does anyone by any chance have a manual/service manual or ANYTHING for the above mentioned model(s) 2016P / 1916? Can't seem to find any real info that could help me in the right direction.
A BVM-2011P monitor that I also have shows a nice and stable image with the same sources connected, so I'm hoping that something is different for this newer model, since the same problem is shown on all 3. Another teori is that all 3 monitors have the same defect, but that's really not what I'm hoping for :-/
