I know www.displaylag.com and www.rtings.com use it for their input lag testing and they seem to be pretty on the ball.

It's only worth getting if you quickly want to compare various displays. You also need to understand how the unit works. You can't just read the delay of the screen. That's why HDTVtest.co.uk for example often times lists the CRT comparison results as well in their reviews.

I don't think it's worthless if indeed you understand how it works as Fudoh says, it can be used for a quick reading of the overall average lag of the display.
The debate about how much of the panel's response time element affects the reading and how much of it should be taken out (or added) in the calculation doesn't bother me much, if the tester reads under 16ms average you can already bet it's plenty fast, enough for anyone's gaming needs.
From what I've read the tester can give very confusing figures for instance on plasmas and a few lcd sets, because it is agnostic to several aspects such as how different lighting technologies work and how your eyes/brain work as well, but again if you use it right it's not like the tester is lying to you or giving you completely wrong figures.

I know it's not meant to be 100% accurate but I am looking for a general idea of how much input lag my TV has. I am looking to get a new one and want to make sure I don't buy a TV with more input lag then what I already have.

I have since tried the input lag test by using a laptop connected to the TV while using a camera to calculate the difference. I know they say it's best to connect to a CRT monitor but that's not possible for me. Again I am just looking for a rough estimate, not 100%.

Anyways my TV seems to average out at around 42ms with PC mode and everything else turned off. That's not counting extra lag from the Frameister and A/V Receiver though.

Then you could just not buy it and save for a new set that's known for its low lag (?) ^^
