BVM 2010P
Hi Guys,
New to the forum so hopefully I have posted this in the right place. I am about to go pick up a BVM 2010P for £250. Its insane but cheapest I can find.
How would I test out the BVM before buying it? I know the simple answer is to plug something into it, but this is last minute and I do not have any hardware that can work with it. The guy has told me that he has switched it on and it powers on. Is there a test screen or feature on this BVM that will allow me to test it without plugging anything into it?
I do have a Wii with composite but no BNC connectors! Arghhhhh
Thanks

Re: BVM 2010P
The 2010 model is old as sin though. Does not have OSD, so no way of testing it that way either.
Buyer beware, with the age of such a unit it likely has a ton of hours on it and is likely not a good investment for the future. 250£ sounds a bit spicy, I would rather spend that money on a newer PVM like the L2 instead.

Thanks kamiboy
I have some other options.
a 2130qm for £100
or
PVM 20M4E for £40
What do you reckon?

Re: BVM 2010P
I think the 20M's are good monitors but it all depends on condition really.
With stuff this old you have to test them via RGB input to see whether the colours are good, there are no burnin and the image is not shaking when inspected up close.

It will be a paypal purchase so I can return to the seller if its bad. The 2130qm was tested and stable, but no idea about the 20M. I think the 20M would be worth a pop?kamiboy wrote:I think the 20M's are good monitors but it all depends on condition really.

Not sure if the 2130qm actually support RGB over scart?

No idea about 2130qm.
Generally speaking, if they do not have OSD they are too old.

Hold on a tick, I see now that the 2130 is just the 20" version of the 2530, it is a good monitor and I would be shocked if its SCART input does not support RGB.
It is an older model though.

Re: BVM 2010P
The service manual for the older version (no S-Video inputs) explicitly lists red/green/blue inputs in the pinout of the SCART connector and the newer-revision model with S-Video did show an RGB signal when I was able to test one.duaplex wrote:Not sure if the 2130qm actually support RGB over scart?

Re: BVM 2010P
Listen to this one. Went to pick up the 20M and as I am about to pick it up when I notice another monitor. I ask what it is and she kneels down and says to me "Thats the PVM 20L5" I could not believe my luck. So I took both monitors for £70
What a result and its thanks to Kamiboy who initially stopped me in my tracks!

Re: BVM 2010P
Congratulations are in order, mate.
The L5 is a fine monitor with 480p support. You did well in picking up both monitors as I suspect the 20M will serve you better for lowres content from the 8/16 bit era while the L5 shines for PS2/NGC era gaming.
Cheers

Re: BVM 2010P
Do I need to buy the RGB to BNC cable from retro gaming cables?

I will be hooking up all my retro consoles for sure

Re: BVM 2010P
You need something like that - just make sure the pinout type matches the cables you're using (EURO or JP-21 - most people use the Euro pinout for use with homemade RGB cables; the JP-21 standard is mainly for use with XRGB upscalers). If you're in the US you can buy one from Daskrabs. retro_console_accessories on eBay might have the right stuff too.
Retrogamingcables claims to be #1, but last we heard they weren't shielding cables properly, and there's also a number of reports of their cables being poorly constructed.
