"First revolution screens" a shmup? (nope)
Still, they don't want to confuse customers. Imagine random Joe Shmoe seeing Fire Emblem Thracia 776 and downloading it, expecting another English Fire Emblem. Although they could separate domestic and import games, way too many dumb people will still be confused, flood the Nintendo hotlines, and waste NOA's resources. Yeah, we'd all love to pay to download imports but I can see that NOA probably doesn't care about catering our hardcore niche group first.

Good points Ganelon. And, if one were to get a Famicom (the smaller model, a mini-SNES, and an N64, I suppose all those wouldn't take up that much space-certainly not much more then an XBOX.Ganelon wrote:Still, they don't want to confuse customers. @ Pixel Corps, I would agree with you about this game-we just haven't seen enough yet. Still, there's nothing wrong with hoping we'll get a next-gen sequel to River Raid.

UPDATE:
Publisher found!
w00t! Looks like one of the first rev games will be indeed a(this) shmup.
Man,that gets me excited!
I also think that we will see lots of shmups on Revolution.
Why? Well, it is known that developing costs on rev are very low and lots of shmup devs(like newbie NIBRIS) haven't got enough cash to make games of a "dying" genre for expensive(PS2+xbox360)consoles.

Some news about this game from IGN:

So it looks like it won't be a shmup after all.

Thread moved and title edited accordingly.
No matter how good a game is, somebody will always hate it. No matter how bad a game is, somebody will always love it.

None taken, the name makes more sense anyhow, given the way the game is played, IMO.Lone Deranger wrote:Quote: "A multi-view 3rd-person shooter".
Oh how I loathe the words 3rd person.....It's like relegating the word football to soccer.... (sorry Americans but there it is...
)
*shrugs* I'm kind of dissapointed, but I do enjoy 3rd person shooters. And the artwork on this website looks promising:

Hmmm... I really don't see any problem with buying a new console for $100-150 as opposed to buying 3 different consoles and their respective cart based collections.dave4shmups wrote:
And so what about the Rev's downloads?? I could purchase a NES, SNES, and N64, and still come short of the price of the Revolution, even though it will be the cheapest of the next 3 consoles.

I don't see the problem with that either, anymore, JP-athough, even though the Rev. will be the cheapest new console, I don't know if it'll be that cheap, But, since that post that you quoted, I am looking forward to the Revolution more then the PS3, and I'm more excited about it then I am about the 360-precisely for all the downloads, and because I have little doubt that Rev. games will be high-quality stuff. I have also heard, though this may just be a rumor, that Nintendo has purchased at least some of the Genesis's library of games from Sega, and that these will be downloadable as well-I hope this is true!jp wrote:Hmmm... I just hope that cheat codes (99 lives in Contra), and unlockables (Jetpac in DK 64) are retained in Rev. downloads.
Back to Raid over River-I think the game could turn out to be quite enjoyable-I don't doubt that it won't be a shmup, but from the overall description of the game, it could turn out to be something like GBA Airforce Delta Strike-not a proper shmup, per se, but still a very enjoyable aircraft shooter. (Although Raid Over River will obviously be 3D.)
