hahahah wtf - Anno Hideaki is in it?

Oh i see this is the thing I vaguely remember reading about a while back which is about the people around Gainax etc.?

Hang on - it's written by the Blazing Transfer Student and Moeyo Pen guy? - amazing :o

Yep, it's based on an autobiographic manga drawn by Shimamoto.

haha I love how from the very first scene Anno is portrayed as the aloof, ultra cool 'arty' type...

The main actor is very good also voice wise - he captures that extreme OTT hotblooded spirit.

Yeah, going to have to check this out. I vomited in my mouth when I read it was "Big Bang Theory" with manga, but after seeing the type of references I think I'll give it a shot.

It really is - it's also informative (the scene with Anno having ultra hardcore knowledge of who did which part of Mazinger Z OP is an example of this).

and although this I think I first came across though Kai and Drauch - I would very recommend Moeyo Pen manga and Blazing Transfer Student manga and OVA (which emm is now 'out there'). Hokuto No Gun have all the stuff bout the mangas.

So nice to see so many detailed references! That Cyborg 009 scene kind of hits close to home when I'm trying to talk to coworkers and friends and family haha...

So many nice touches, be it mentioned Brygar, all the tokusatsu references, the beginnings of Maison Ikkoku, and just seeing copies of Black Jack on a store shelf. It's perfect.

I'm really quite impressed with all the old gear and stuff they've managed to gather and how they've been able to maintain a sense of the time-period - sure, it's Japan and those old things are out there but still

yeh the Bygar and Cyborg 009 references were great - I also of course love the Char guy cycling off on his not even proper red crappy bicyle shouting 'this is 3 times faster!!!'

The Combattler V talk from Anno convinced me to finally start watching it, I watched the first episode just now, I like it, seems to have a bit more cinematographic flair and animation detail than Mazinger Z or even Great Mazinger.

I'm not sure, but in the GE999 manga reading near the start of ep.4 they even seem to have gotten some of the original seiyou from the film and series...

damn - I haven't finished Ashita No Joe series yet, and it's after spoilering the shit out of it for me hahahah

and that car animation is an actual Anno thing isn't it?

Anno's apartment is so boss - giant Ideon poster on the wall, issue of something on the floor with Char and Amuro on the cover :).

Lulz @ Honoo's art being considered 'bad' - I'd be drawing stuff all the time if I could draw like that! :p

Nice gifs Raytrace.

Hori Shitto dat last episode!!
Spoiler
the real Shimamoto!, "Honoo no Tenkousei" being published on Sunday and the adult/Moeyo Pen version of Moyuru at the end. That scene when he throws all his manga was pretty intense.
I loved this series from beginning to end. Hope we can get more Shimamoto scanlated after this.
BTW, Shimamoto vs 2hu

Yeah I think Anno is known to be good at things crashing into things, destruction, particle detail type scenes - I think the scene in SDF Macross where the Zentradi mecha destroy Macross City is supposed to be by him.
