Re: too close for comfort - black label
Can anyone recommend a decent frontend that works with slowpoke? I tried using it with M+GUI but I get an error when trying to load any game: error: unknown option: -langpath.

any chance to see this cv1k.c emulator for android released public?
Re: too close for comfort - black label
Futari BL doesnt seem to work in mame 0155b.

What's the 'b' in your version ?monouchi wrote:Futari BL doesnt seem to work in mame 0155b.
You deleted NVRAM etc ?
What's the error message ?

I just downloaded the latest release from Mamedev: 0155b.exertw wrote:What's the 'b' in your version ?monouchi wrote:Futari BL doesnt seem to work in mame 0155b.

Yes, deleted NVRAM.
No error message, the rom just doesnt show up in the list.
maybe I have to re-pack the futariblk archive?
Re: too close for comfort - black label
AFAIK the futariblk has not changed, I never run the GUI, what happens when you run the game from the command line ?monouchi wrote:I just downloaded the latest release from Mamedev: 0155b.exe

Re: too close for comfort - black label
Are you using the latest rom available? Please take note that they changed its name from futariblk to futaribl for no particular reason, which in turn makes impossible to run it under 'slowpoke' version (based on 0.143u9) unless you rename it.
TL;DR: get the latest rom named futaribl (or just rename yours) since MAME 0.155 doesn't have "futariblk" within its internal list.

Renaming the rom to futaribl worked to get it into the list.Zosite wrote:Are you using the latest rom available? ...though now it says missing rom or chd images...so I guess I have an old rom?
Re: too close for comfort - black label
Yeah, they played around renaming cv1k.c sets and adding clones quite a bit as of late (not surprising since cave stuff returned to -official- playgrounds on 0.153). Getting the latest futaribl rom from <CENSORED> ...dumping it yourself from your shiny PCB using your shiny dumping tools... (obviously
) will surely make the trick for you.

Dont have dumping tools and I will find the new rom out there,np.
Re: too close for comfort - black label
futaribl.zip is around 48mb, the old futariblk.zip 42mb.
futaribl.zip works with 0155. (Though still runs no where near the pcb.)
Thanks for the help.

If playing for survival then the game is playable but if you practice for score at work (Mame) ...and then go home to keep practice on the pcb, the timing/slowdowns are way off.
(And I have tried lots of different blitter delay settings.)

maybe we have to wait for next demul release
Re: too close for comfort - black label
Why they tease with cvk1 support once in every 10 or 12 months and nothing gets released.thetricker24 wrote:maybe we have to wait for next demul release
Also just like with Mame you can expect a lot of input lag.
Emulation of cvk1 won't be 'good enough' before long, I mean several years.
Personally I've stopped being interested.

It'd be much better if the developers actually cared at all. The slowdown isn't that hard to simulate decently accurately.

Indeed, if somebody cares enough to make it better then they'll make it better, if not, it will remain as it is.trap15 wrote:It'd be much better if the developers actually cared at all. The slowdown isn't that hard to simulate decently accurately.
Due to all the drama with the hacked up builds I think you'll find that most of the devs don't actually give a shit and the driver is strictly in 'maintenance only' mode.
It serves the purpose of making it easier to verify dumps etc. for the future, but if you want to play the games then go buy the ports.

In the past I've spent ALOT of my time trying to figure out correct delay formula, taking in account different blendmodes and other stuff, but with no results. Funny thing - my simple formula which is used in MAME works the best than more complex ones...
Anyway, I've lost interest to this system many time ago, because IMO its useless waste of time if you cant test/benchmark real thing. I haven't CV1K PCB so I can't.
Never ever seen real CV1000, like almost all hardware I've emulated lol.

Re: too close for comfort - black label
Having things closed off to the public where things can't be tested with a large audience (of which some are bound to have the actual PCBs going from this forum at least) doesn't help the case.
MAME's cavesh3.c sat on a private server for something like 3 years on the so-called "maintenance mode" when improvements could've been made while people still cared prior to its reinclusion as cv1k.c last year, Demul still has no official public build containing anything CV1000-related to critique on (although I read that may finally change soon?) and trap15's alterations are forever locked behind some mentality I can't reasonably describe nicely without constituting flamebait.
Point is, it's obvious where the real "drama" is - anyone who still thinks the drama and hinderance towards improving CV1000 emulation is from rombeggers and the end-users in general is part of the problem rather than the solution. It didn't take very long to get a reasonable ballpark of blitter speeds with Slowpoke MAME and highlight differences between versions, and Raiden II in MAME would not have happened as successfully as it has without developer-tester interaction - If we have developers who give a shit about this side of the spectrum co-ordinating with the public (or even just making all the variables involved configurable externally and let loose) I'm sure progress could be made.

Re: too close for comfort - black label
Mmmm... a new build of Slowpoke MAME based on 0.153+ hence containing ddpdfk and dsmbl within its libraries would be useful to calm down the rest of us while they iron out their differences (it could take eons)...

Re: too close for comfort - black label
It's not me, it's just my Phenom II 3.52 GHz refusing to run cv1k stuff at consistent full speed under official builds talking here! And I thought it couln't be much worse than Sega Titan Video stuff...
Nothing a dedicated dynarec couldn't fix but we have 'slowpoke' right there, don't we? I can live without the rest of them being emulated since I have all X360 ports, but with a PAL console I'm hopeless with Mushihimesama and Ibara.

Re: too close for comfort - black label
All officially emulated cv1k games work under 0.155, if you miss some games it's just that you don't have the right roms.
Going back to older builds with even more incorrect emulation would be pointless, and even if it's for 'speed' I doubt the current MAME version asks for significantly more processing power compared to the old 'slowpoke' build.
And the blitter stuff is still there if that counts.
Whatever, cv1k emulation still sucks.
Go play Raiden DX.

Re: too close for comfort - black label
Honestly, I think it's safe to assume that cv1k is almost the same cavesh3 was back when Slowpoke was released, for it seems they didn't even touch the thing in all this time for a number of reasons, so even more incorrect emulation might not be the case here, and the blitter settings were already there to play with back then as you said.

It does... sorry but if the word is *significantly* it does, what else can I say? I talk from experience.

Word. You wouldn't think I'd be wasting my time playing Ibara at 45 FPS and unspeakable slowdown when I have "raiden2dx (harder)" right here to rape me instead. It's just that it could be nice to at least -have- the chance of playing Mushi and Ibara seriously after all this time... *sigh*

Re: too close for comfort - black label
I didn't follow closely but noticed there have been several modifications done to the cv1k driver since the early releases, patches (or removals for better accuracy), and correctives, even some done recently in-between 0.154 and 0.155 IIRC.
Every time those modifications must have added another few % of required cpu power to run at full speed, it's annoying but if your current cpu cannot handle cv1k anymore this means it was already borderline with the early builds.
In my mind such a situation (typical MAME with most 'newer' drivers) translates by 'no good', and I don't see it getting faster again before a long time, quite the opposite actually since there doesn't seem to be any interest at the moment inside the mamedev circles for serious work on cv1k anyway.
So you have a choice between older builds that are 'faster' but buggier, and newer that are more 'accurate' but too heavy unless you follow by upgrading your cpu.
Well, this sucks. But you already own Mushi on the 360 which is an awesome port, and if you miss Ibara that much you can get the crappy PS2 port for under $100 (yes some people sell it for a relatively reasonable price) or pcb for around $300.
Or buy a better cpu, which should cost you significantly less money.
Still, who cannot live without playing Ibara ?
