You can blame the disinterest from many content owners with regards to their back catalogues for that. I've got a bunch of Twilight Time releases myself and yes, if you don't jump on the train at the start you potentially lose out, but it's not their fault - just the business model of them having to license making 'X' of something.
some of those criterion collection price points piss me off so much

like chungking express's $70+ price point.
But isn't this one OOP, hence the high price?

I registered last year to blu-ray.com, never posted there though. In fact, I didn't remember having registered until I saw your post here.
Yeah, but they don't do bullshit "limited editions" like Twilight Time, though. They simply just lost the rights to Chungking and it went OOP. It's nothing compared to their Third Man release. Studio Canal rereleased it and it still sells for $200. Love the company, but people put them a bit too high on the pedestal. Twilight Time can fuck right off, though.

I owned a couple of the Chow Yun Fat DVD's from Criterion back in the day. The problem with Criterion is that they number the releases and people want to the whole collection. If you were a late starter suddenly those OOP DVD's and Blu rays become sought after due to the spine alone.

Its like Pokemon.
This industry has become 2 dimensional as it transcended into a 3D world.

Yeah, definitely. They do have some of the nicest transfers around and always release a fantastic package, but wayyyy too many people consider them the ONLY label that's worth a shit, thus you get so many wacko zealots. "If it's on Criterion then it's one of the best movies ever made." Criterion is the Cave of film collecting.

I lurk on a lot of forums. Before that, USENET and mailing lists, but these days only one each of those. Some forums are horribly useless, but in general they are way better than a lot of trash heaps that pass for websites now.

Back in the day, people with information to share would host their own static websites on their own machine, ISP-provided web space, or something like Geocities. Now they post it on a forum. So it's nice when you want to know what a VW diesel piston looks like and there's a thread about rebuilding the engine with photos of every piece.

I'd have to disagree, there are too many titles which would never have had a HD release at all if it wasn't for their business. Also if you buy them when they're announced, the price really isn't that bad. About 2x the cost of a mass produced summer blockbuster at Amazon. Twilight Time are the reason my favourite film of all time exists on Blu-Ray.

That is the main appeal of forums for me. And one of the reasons I miss the old orkut(RIP). It was more like a huge collection of forums(ran on a really bad software) acessed from the same account than a modern social network. You had some pretty great(user ran, not corporate-owned) communities and you could still talk to their members individually and get to know what other good communities they were in.
But then they started adding more profile-centric updates, lots of spammers came in and it became more of a social network ran on a really bad software.

Unrelated, but remembered me when my house was broken in and I found calling the cops from the landline didn't work at all(phone was otherwise working fine), I had to do it from my cellphone.

I am on Facebook (and only Facebook) and not very active, making updates < 10 times per year for the last few years, but I am on at least one forum for each of my hobbies.

My observation is that on social media, the content is very focused on the individual, whereas on forums (fora?) at least there is topic-driven discussion and while personal experiences are still shared, the content is relevant and interesting to most users.

Contrast to 90% of what shows up on my Facebook feed, my reaction is just "Who gives a shit?!"
Hi gct! :)

So basically, I quit Facebook for that reason about a year or so ago, and it has saved me a ton of time because most of the stuff posted on it (guilty as well) was just like who-cares? stuff. So instead I spent more time either doing nothing, like quiet relaxing time (also gave up TV about the same time) or teaching myself new things.. like programming! And so after some weird changes in life, I've ended up here because I wanted to create a shmup game :D

And yeah, if you were speaking Latin fora would be right XD

Dude... that's such a load, such a gimmick. You're telling me Peckinpah, Lynch, Hill, Malle, Wise, Lang, DePalma, and a bunch of other big name directors and some very big films on there would never get released? Be it genre film directors or those revered as some of the greats, the stuff they release would without a doubt be picked up. I guarantee you almost everything "big" will get released from a different company once their three year contact is up, and some of it already has releases in other regions. Rollerball? Guarantee that will get another BD release soon, man. These films are too huge. And the price is ludicrous, despite what you say. Look at companies like Criterion, Severin, Eureka, Arrow--they're putting out films with great packages all around, be it custom covers, special features, nice cases--the whole shebang for the same price or even less. I dunno, they receive a lot of flack for this, and it just seems too obvious this is a total marketing plot. If they were releasing hardcore genre films I'd understand, but their impressive catalog says otherwise, as well as their re-releases, which they initially said they wouldn't even do...

Not trying to stir the kettle (because this is good news!), but this is what I'm talking about: http://www.arrowfilms.co.uk/rollerball/

New Rollerball Bluray! Same special features plus a few new ones, reversible cover art, way cheaper, and honestly, probably a better transfer.

A forum is like a bar, or a pub. (I will use the word pub)
A variety of different people frequent pubs. Some of them are there every day, some of them pop in and out now and then and some of them just stand in the corner and stare at everyone for hours at a time. Sometimes people come to the pub and start trouble, sometimes these people are kicked out and barred entry. There are lots of pubs of all shapes and sizes. If the patrons are good people that you relate to, perhaps that is the pub for you.

This pub is good because people are intelligent and sensible and about as sophisticated as a pub of this category can be. Most pubs are bad because the people in them are stupid.

& sometimes even the sensible ones have too much to drink & start a fight. We have no hot bartender though, unless I missed something while I was gone. Place is still a sausage fest!
