Oh, ok - thanks! You still end up with a pillarboxed 4:3 image, since 224p sources (MD, SNES etc) already give you borders on the Mini, so it adds up.

I may try to do some shenanigans to get the monitor exchanged for a S2715H which is IPS, Vesa mounts, 16:9 and has VGA and HDMI inputs. I also noticed that the 2412m has displayport and no hdmi which will probably foul up the Framemeister from the get go.

It's kind of tough in the States, I was reading through some of Xyga's posts as a lot of the ideal monitors mentioned aren't readily available here. Iiyana doesn't have much of a distribution network in NA and that Benq BL2411PT seems to have not really left Europe as well.

I bet lot of people have connections with Dell through work like I do, so finding an ideal < $350 monitor within the Dell universe I think will help a lot of shooting game enthusiasts in the States.

Review of the U2415 is up, as expected it is quite good.
http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/reviews/dell_u2415.htm

+ fastest pixel response times for an IPS ever (at least from those reviewed by tftcentral)
+ no overshoot at optimal overdrive setting
+ okay-ish input lag (12ms 'total-average')
+ excellent brightness adjustment range
+ very good contrast ratio & black levels (for an IPS)
+ good default colors
+ light AG coating
+ rotating stand (also VESA)
- no support for 16:9 ratio
- no VGA nor DVI (only DP & HDMI)
- glow is stronger compared to e.g. U2414H

Well I might still go for the S2715H since it fits my requirements more.

Yeah, that's not exactly the monitor for me - but these results bode well for future displays!

For this panel, a few things really can't be called negatives when compared to the current competition, but I believe they will soon date this model somewhat:

No 16:9 support is a big one, and the 16:10 performance will soon be dated with that resolution, maximum refresh rate of only 60Hz, and no form of adaptive sync. Beyond that, though, it's probably a good upgrade from most monitors. I'd still think twice if asked to trade my current set for it, given 24" seems a bit small to me, though 27" really isn't that much bigger. But it is interesting to see this exact resolution and AR alive still, after a number of years where panel manufacturers seemed to retire the format. I guess that somebody decided that price and demand for this was high enough to bring it back.
