Outright confirmed in Shiki 1. She worked for Hitler and was in the Luftwaffe. She's out to avenge him, and claims he was possessed by demons.

So that's why Fumiko is a villain protagonist... I need to add that to the Villains Wiki.

More of an anti-hero than anything. She fights against the killer Shikigami, she just has weird motives.

She is a total bitch. She killed her stepmother just because she liked the same man as her.
Re: Castle Shikigami games
Nazi protagonists aside, I really like the series. I've Shiki 1 on GNET, and a local arcade had Shiki 2 in for a while. And I'm poised to try Shiki 3 for the first time today, having taken delivery of the 360 port yesterday.
The PAL ports have been ridiculous beasts, but overall it's distinct in feel and mechanics (relative to the genre, at least), and that's why I like 'em. I wouldn't necessarily compare the series, but the same part of my brain that loves Psyvariar also likes Shiki. Bullet grazing maybe.
But, certainly, worth a good try if you hanker for something distinct from contemporary bullet hell (I'll see how I feel about Shiki 3 in a few hours).
